...which obviously can't be the same as US time!!

I'm not sure how exactly school children will have 'more energy' if they get up (and supposedly, go to bed) 30 minutes later....

    More daylight? That sounds great.

And I don't see that this has to do with socialism.

His reasoning may be idiotic, but as I'm critical of the stupidity of our nation's daylight savings crap, this is one particular case where I won't belittle him.

Why not change the time school opens instead of changing the time zone?

He has suggested it beofre, but this time he's actually going for it...

I just don't see how its all that necessary. Aren't they sitting right on the equator? How much sunlight do you need?

Didn't Chavez already redistribute sunlight? This seems like old news...but maybe not.

That's only if you're using a previously unheard of definition for "awesome".

Venezuela already has a different time zone to the US, so that particular charge from critics is kind of idiotic.

Looking at the map I can't see why this is really necessary, but I guess in the far west of the country the sun would be rising quite late.

As I said in the other thread about this, the problem is not changing the timezone. If this means more sunlight hours, great.

The problem is Chávez making a fool out of himself (yet again), claiming that he is "redistributing the sun for the poor" or whatever (the other thread on this had some pretty idiotic remarks by him on the subject).

I'll explain things. My mom is part venezuelan and she used to live there as a child. School in Venezuela starts at 7 AM, not 9AM like it does in europe and NA.

In the morning, you wake up at around 6 AM and it's still dark out. at 6:30-6:45 your ready and you leave for school, and while your walking it's dark out. you began classes at 7 AM. That is when the sun comes out. But walking in the dark almost completely drains your energy, cause your body is saying "it's dark, go to sleep" basically. This time difference would help alot, infact my mom said that she wished that they implemanted the time zone when she was a kid.

In some areas it's even worse. In Merida for example, the mountains cover the sun and the sun doesn't even come up till 9 AM.

My problem is that it's Chavez that's made the difference and brought it up in the first place. Shouln't a meteorologist or something bring up the topic instead? Cause to me, it sounds like "Oh i'm so powerful, i can change the time" or something.
