Checking diplomacy

Is there a way to find out whether any given Civ likes me? And more to the point, anything about how they feel about each other? Hell, will I find out if they're at war? I had one Civ ask me to help fight another... I refused, and can find no way to tell if those two civs are even at war with each other. I knew we weren't going to see "+4" any longer, but I would like to be able to at least find "Cautious/Friendly/etc"... what am I missing?

I'm assuming the "No diplomatic actions" will be "at war with FOO" or something if they actually are... still can't tell anything about how people feel about each other, though. At one point England showed up at my door and said something vaguely threatening, my options were to tell her off or meekly slink away and I have no idea what either option actually did.

Has anyone figured out what's the point of being rude to AI? What kind of benefit could you possibly get?
