China and Japan

Do you guys think anything will come of this? A UN intervention? WWIII?!

I say the same thing as I said about Taiwan, what the heck China? You control over 1/5th of the world's populace and yet you greed for more. Not to mention, Japan is a freer country then you.

Isn't Japan a Non-NATO ally of the US (I don't for sure remember.) Perhaps we could use it as an excuse to threaten China to back out of the NK situation (Just let us free them already) and to stay the heck out of Taiwan. Otherwise, threaten invasion. They wouldn't call the bluff if we had a strong and bold enough man to do it.

Well, considering NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization, I would assume so ;)

I wasn't asking if they were in NATO or not, I was wondering whether they were a US ally. I thought they were, but I wasn't sure.

And, I'm surprised you didn't attempt to totally rip my post to shreds. Did I actually get you on my side for once?;)

For all the propping up of their currency that the US does, I'm pretty sure that they're an ally.

Isn't america responsible for their protection since the WW2 treaty banned them from declaring war and disbanded most of their millitary?
Declaring offensive war. They even had issues with deploying troops outside of Japan for a very long time. I think they finally sent some peacekeepers to like Thailand or someplace in the nineties.

I doubt they'd have much of a problem with defensive wars. :p

Iirc Japan still has an army and navy iirc Japan's navy is the most powerful in that region.

That is arguing China is a US ally because she buys US Treasury Bonds.

Nonsense.

Japan is an ally militarily. China is a rival.

Its amazing (And awesome) That even the people of China recognize the evil of China's government. :goodjob:

China is an anti-freedom country and so is an enemy of the United States, or at least, they should be.

Hey, we talked about this in my Japanese class today. :goodjob: あー、今日日本語の授業でこれについて話した... :p

Naturally, the islands should stay under Japanese jurisdiction until the rightful government of the Chinese Nationalist Party is restored in Nanjing, at which time negotiations would be prudent.

Whatever discussion is going on in this thread, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the article. The article is about China and Japan fighting over oil in disputed territory...

Actually the US Navy is. Which is why neither would be dumb enough to create any sort of armed conflict over the island, because the US/UN would likely shut down the area totally.

I meant countries in the area not the US. I know we have the largest navy..

Nope, just too lazy to take the time out of my day to go through a point by point retort.

We can't back Taiwan when we don't even officially recognize them. We also won't be invading a nation with nuclear weapons and the largest standing army in the world. How uninformed are you? I might be right wing but you are something beyond the sensible side.
