Chinease Man Sues for Virtual Money.

The only thing that I've heard that is weirder than this is that some people buy - with real money - virtual money in games like Everquest.

Just imagine...some day there will be virtual-real exchange banks!

According to the news piece, there're already games coming out allowing you to buy items with real cash... ;)

When I read the thread title I was quite sure this was about you... ;)

That reminds me, what ever happened to "S'pore - M'asia", XIII?

I was proud of myself that I figured that out. ;) What inspired you to write that, anyway?

I moved between the two countries every week. ;) More accurate as a reflection of my location.

So if he wins does he get virtual money?

Why did I feel this queer flicker of a rushing sensation, like we're cresting a waterfall and I just opened my eyes for a moment?

We're going over.

What's next? Rob a bank to get more Monopoly money?

I know a guy who paid $500 to buy a house in Ultima Online. A fool and his money.....

The same can be said by the general public, about some of our CFC posters' obsession with postcount. :ack:

If I'd spent lots of time and effort to have built up a massive portfolio in an online game, I'd be pissed if some hacker steal all that too, due to poor server security. ;)

I just can't comprehend it. I can see paying $10 a month or whatever if it's a game that you play all the time and really enjoy. But some of these people have dumped thousands (some probably $10000+) of bucks into it. I mean c'mon, what does it get you? Not that many years down the road, the game will shut down and poof, it's gone with absolutely nothing to show for it. Once that happens you can't even resale it to get something back.

Well I just paid $30 for extra units, maps, and technologies in Civilization. It's called CONQUESTS.

Of course this is not as extreme, but it does not surprise me that people will pay real money to expand and enhance their experience of a virtual world they really enjoy.

The question comes down to "What is your time worth?" I have not played Ultima Online, but I'm assuming that if he would have just played long enough he would have amassed enough virtual cash to buy the same house. Paying $500 real is a worthwhile shortcut because in that same amount of time he saved, he can make more than that in the real world (or at least experience other things worth $500 to him).

$3.42 an hour playing Everquest, eh? Let's see, that's probably $10 a month...about 720 hours in a month...assuming 8 hours a day for sleep...that leaves 480 hours to play...that makes $1641.60 a month, minus $10...

You say I can make $1631.60 a month by PLAYING EVERQUEST???

:D
