Hello everyone,

Since the introduction of the chinese Siheyuan something is bothering me: I find them ugly when spammed.
Is it possible to have only one (but bigger) building per tile instead of 6 tiny ones ?
What do you think ?

An example of how it looks right now:

The original design had them bigger and seamlessly connect horizontally. Not sure why they were scaled down.

preferably they would seam together like farms, and follow coasts in the same way

not sure if that is possible to do though

I am not fond of the spamming of it either.

I don't think a big long one would make it better. I don't remember them being bigger and longer and connecting. But clearly I am getting older and not remembering things perhaps. Are they supposed to look like the great wall but connecting like some giant roadnetwork all across the map? I don't recall how it looked long long ago anymore. Or are they supposed to connect like some kind of land polynesian statue thing?

If they are not connecting perhaps putting them on a 2x2 instead of a 3x2 it would look better or less wonk as it wouldn't cut or overlap so weirdly with much of the terrain? I though the idea of the Siheyuan was to form little gardens or a courtyard between houses, not be long long chains of houses? I could once again be wrong on that. What do I know about Chinese architecture anyway.

Anyway I do find them a bit of an eyesore.

The courtyards are in the houses.

I don't think it's possible to make special graphics like farms, feitoria, and moai. They're all hardcoded.

I feel like they were made smaller because people didn't like how they looked and so smaller was less offensive.

I played around and 1.15 scale gives effective horizontal tiling

I think it's better this way, but very prominent. At least doesn't look distorted or anything.

They will end in the water if you build it on costal tiles I think with your solution.
Wait are they 4 or 6 per tiles in your screenshot, I can't tell :crazyeye:

Good question, it overlaps slightly on the corner

Perhaps with the terrain contour off it will slide down, I'm not sure will have to check.
Edit: If anything makes it worse

There are 6 per tile :)

Every large improvement except the specially hardcoded ones doesn't go well with the coast. It can't be avoided when the water sometimes takes up 1/3 of the coastal tile.

Just need to add a retaining wall beneath the improvement under the level of the ground

Wouldn't a more elegant solution be just having a big siheyuan in the middle, facing normally like all the other improvements (I understand the idea behind it but it looks off), with some houses around it to simulate an idea of urban sprawl?
I really like this improvement placing minigame, but visually it's a bit of an... eye sore.

Or maybe it looks weird because it has no base... Can someone try adding a floor to them?
There should also be some greenery in the courtyard.

That could help, but I fear that will not be enough.
Not my intention to be constantly negative but It will end up being the classic.. "polishing a turd".
