CHRIS' MIDDLE AGES REMIX - THIRD CRUSADE V.1.2

--- DOWNLOAD BIQ & FILES BELOW

Extract both FILES & BIQ Below to Conquests/Conquests and you're good to go!

Welcome to the updated scenario !

**Changes** from 1.1-
-No more FOW or Land-bridges
-There were several bugs causing crashes in the previous files. These have been fixed. ( Condottiero Crash )
-Paladin added as UU for France & Burgundy
-Carrack as naval UU for Portugal
-VP location in Jerusalem & Relics
-Only Conquest Victory Available

The Map-

A highly edited version of the Firaxis 'Europe' from the middle-ages scenario with pre-placed cities & wonders.

The map has been returned to it's original settings which I made: No land bridges, No FOW, and no buildable settlers :)

The Units-

While I am only using original Firaxis unit graphics, many units have been re-named or made available only to certain civs as a UU. I have also used original unit graphics to make unique units, such as the Paladin.

Here's a sampling of some of the cool units you'll see in the scenario

Hello, I’m getting this error for the Joust Arena. In the biq file, the Joust Arena has the Civilopedia entry as “BLDG_Palace”, so not sure why it would try to read that.

so try reuploading everything to Conquests/conquests and see if it works. I wasn't able to replicate the crash. It works fine when I try it.

I noticed there is no Victory Location in Jerusalem, is this correct?

Fun quick scenario! Played as the larger Holy Roman Empire.

Some items I noticed…

  1. There is no Tar strategic resource on the map, is that correct?
  2. Byzantine Medicine and Arab Medicine appear to do the same thing and I had the option of building both.
  3. Aqueduct and Hospital both say that they grow cities beyond size 6, so they do the same thing do.

Random Ideas

  1. Since the scenario name is Third Crusade, maybe the timeline is just between 1189-1192 and the turns are weekly. Of course this would be a big change and you’d have to bring back relics plus Jerusalem VP, but you’d be able to have the locked wars in place. I just ignored the Arab Civs and Jerusalem while playing as the HRE.
  2. I added a tile near Istanbul to connect the lands over the Bosphorus. With land/sea intersections enabled via C3X.
  3. I always play with Cultural Conversions on, so I had to adjust all the current culture in place. I am NOT a fan of culture flips, but without it, there’s a whole bunch of useless City Improvements, so I just deal with it.
  4. Add back some Fog of War, it keeps the goal of Exploration in the game.
  5. If you have C3X, you can also limit the quantity of mounted units, not including the Keshiks.
  6. Maybe enable “No Raze” since nobody can build Settlers.

Played a couple of games as Byzantine, primarily to observe and not get involved in the Crusade, which was also real life!

The first game, the Levantines (Kingdom of Jerusalem) were annihilated in a very few turns by Ayyubids. The Germans (Holy Roman Empire) essentially took over the path crossing over the Bosphorus (land tile added by me) and thus the French were forced to take the long route over Ukraine and down the Caucasus. But the French did pretty well capturing Turkish towns in eastern Anatolia! The Germans also took a piece of the Turks western cities before settling into a war of attrition with the Ayyubids. The English on the other hand didn’t show up at all.

For the second game, the Levantines put up a big fight at Antioch, surviving a bloody 45 plus turn siege against the Muslim Hordes before succumbing to the pressure. I gave the Germans no Rights of Passage, so it's possible the Crusaders could have been saved had I done so. Still, the battles continued on in the mostly Turkish areas that the Germans would conquer. I added a French port city Perpignan to give the French an outlet to the Mediterranean and they were able to take Cyprus in addition to units that traveled by land to Anatolia. The English still have very low visibility. There is a narrow sea passage at Portugal, so maybe their navy is getting stuck there. But also, I did not play these two games to their conclusion, so it could be they just show up very late!

I think the Turks would be a fun civ to play next, as they are quite literally the contact line for the Germans and Ayyubids. But I'll actually have to fight this time!

Okay played the Turks and these are in Emperor level btw.

1st game, I also added in Military Alliances back in as a test. The Ayyubids took out the Levantines rather quickly again. Unfortunately, the Germans arrived at our frontiers really fast too. Those infidels must have signed ROP’s with everyone and moving at lighting speed, I was not ready for them. They took our frontier town and we also almost also lost our capital too, as Burgundy and French Army units attacked via the sea. Remember in this scenario the Muslims have no access to Pikemen or Swiss Mercs, our strongest defender is a 3!

But in the end, it was the Ayyubids who saved us. They moved their units in from the Levant and took care of the infidels initial assaults, Mashallah.

Unfortunately, the military alliances had bad consequences for us, as we had to fight the Byzantines, Georgians and even our own brothers the Almohads!

I did try to go on the offensive against the Byzantines at Attalea and it was a disaster that left us weakened throughout. We would lose cities and then the Ayyubids would recapture them, but they didn’t give them back to me. :(

I did play long enough to see the English appear over the Caucuses, so they were taking the long path as well.

2nd game as the Turks only lasted 34 turns. The Levantines held on against the Ayyubids and thus I had to go it alone against the barbaric infidels! This time I only saw French units appear, maybe they somehow beat the Germans to the Bosphorus crossing, but they rippped through Anatolia with ease! The Burgundies also took my capital :( Didn’t see a single German unit, but I’m pretty sure they were traveling through the Ukraine at that moment.

Playing as the Turks is certainly a challenge, if the Ayyubids get tied down in the Levant!

I really do like these short quick scenarios! But I am suffering from some Third Crusade fatigue. I do want to eventually play all the big Civs.

One thing though is Queen Elizabeth is the animation shown when talking to the English.
