I've always wondered something, what is the christian view on torturing/eating certain animals/etc.

and what would be jesus' view? (his views always seem to be different than the christian's)

why would god create animals that don't talk and act like humans? instead he wanted instinctually based creatures to live along side us?

Genesis 1:
28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.

Of course, after they ate the forbidden fruit, God opened it up more and allowed us to eat animals. I in no way support the torture of animals, but I have no issue at all with eating some tasty animal flesh.

As a christian I dont think any animal should be tortured(?).

And why do you say Jesus' view would be different than a christians?

Is this another anti-christian troll thread? Because the way you parse it, you make it sound like christians are not following Jesus in this area.....

not in this area, but i've seen many christians who ignore important tenements of jesus' message.

no one on here really so don't take offense, off the hand stab at fakes in the real world.

@VRCW, could it be interpreted as a king rules over his subjects? sort of a benevolent "protect the servant" sort of thing?

In your opinion maybe....but since you are an atheist, perhaps their views on Jesus' message a tad bit different than yours. Anyway, what does this have to do with 'christian views on animals'?

Well, that begs the question if they are 'fakes' are they really christians?

I know I am VRCW, but that is exactly how I interpret it, but in this case the king is allowed to eat his subjects as long as it is done in a hummane way.

As I said, though, later in the Bible, we are given permission to eat meat.

Genesis 9:
1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

Still, though, yes I think we have a responsibility to the animals of this world, but man must always come first.

let's just leave it for another thread ;)

i know jesus' message because i was raised on it and i know it mentioned a few things about helping the poor, turning the cheek, etc.

i see it often in real life and it's sickening since i live in the bible belt.
though your second point hit what i was saying, they're not christian. which is why they sicken me.

anyways, no more OT for us, haha.

Genesis 9:

ahh, so in the beginning we couldnt eat them?

and that isnt what i was saying, i know christians don't have a view on eating meat (at least, not a huge controversy around it) but this is from an animal rights standpoint.

would jesus care if you beat an animal? is there a verse dealing with this?

Right. Recall from the first quote of Genesis 1, where God said "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food."

Initially, we were only to eat of the plants. It was later, after the flood (not after the eating of the fruit, apologies there), we were told we could eat meat.

I don't recall a specific verse, but I do not think he would condone it, no. That's just my personal opinion, though. I am not trying to put words in Jesus' mouth. I gotta tell you, though, sometimes my dear little kitty really puts me to the test...

that is odd though, what would be the reasoning for the sudden shift?

God: "oh, yeah...since we're having a one on one right now, i guess it's cool if i tell you that you can eat the cows now. Quick, get em while they're still surprised"

first off, jesus prefers dogs :D

haha, but yeah...i couldnt see the man being for it, but i'd say that it wouldnt be out of culture for animals to be treated cruelly at the time.
