The Christmas smilies are already there in the pop-up list. Are they not showing for you?
Normally during Christmas the normal basic ones are swapped for the Christmas ones.

I should not have to attach my own Christmas smileys. It's LONG after Thanksgiving, in either country.
Thanks to @Quintillus we have now the Christmas theme available again. He put work to re-make the old Christmas theme, and I hope you appreciate it as much as I do

The theme will not be the default theme right now, since we don't have enough time to check it. Depending on how it goes this year, it might become the default for next year.

Going to throw out there that, regardless of which is default, I love the idea of the Christmas smileys being optional if it's not too much extra work for the admins. While I love Christmas, my autistic brain does not love how the Christmas hats make the line breaks uneven.
One thing would be to note anything that needs polished for next year, e.g. wrong colors or poor contrast. Some of these I've listed below (in part for my own references, but it also means they are "known"):
- Too much blue. The left side of post background, the "reactions/likes" bar, quoted posts.
- The "Edit" button by polls is white font on white background.
- Site-wide announcements and GDPR notices should probably be white-on-green rather than black-on-green for readability
There are probably more I'm forgetting or haven't noticed yet.
Longer term I also want to put together a bit more info on how to create these, an improved version/enhancements to the "XenForo 2.x Styling Guide(s)" I started this summer. But to some extent I need to learn more myself, especially how to bundle GIFs/PNGs with themes in a portable manner.
Also longer term I'm hoping to add more of the mid-2000s effects that some of the long-timers may recall. The tiled background image and the snowy post header are the only ones that I've integrated so far, but I'm cautiously optimistic a few more classic theme aspects can be revived.

FWIW, the green font in the Dark CFC theme is nice and Christmassy. It's cheerful.

I used to rename the smilies folder to a folder that has the Christmas version of some smilies, but with the switch to Xenforo cloud hosting, I no longer have direct FTP server access to the forums files so can’t do it myself now. It would need to send a request to Xenforo support. Little bit late for this year but I will submit an inquiry to them to see if it’s something they can do.

When is the right date to take out our Christmas profile?
Whenever you feel like it. Some Christmas traditions last well into January, so whatever feels most comfortable for you.
