Chronicles of Mankind

The new update WILL break all saves made prior to the 1.2 crime update! So if you want to play a save made on 1.1.1 or older you will need to either stick with those versions or start a new save.

It's also recommended to perform a clean installation of the new Chronicles of Mankind update. So in other words, delete the old COM mod folder and then install 1.2.

I'm trying to install COM. When I try to unzip the mod file, I get an unspecified error. I have tried to download it again, but Mega won't let me redownload it; the only option I have to Save.

Check if you have enough space on system's Drive, the file is huge, Nexus really should've kept extra media separate. Or you could use Mega's app instead of browser, but that requires an account.

I set up an account and installed the app. Jesus, MEGA is poorly documented and stupidly complex. It took me an hour and a half to figure out how to download something through the app. Then, when I tried, it said that the file is too large to open unless I upgrade to one of the professional levels. I'd like to play Chronicles of Mankind, but I don't want to play it so badly that I'm willing to spend $100 to do so.

You don't need to open it, you need to add it to your folder that is being synchronized on PC.

As @Mr Smith said: You don't need a Pro account to download it. Even I don't have a Pro account to upload it.

I use Mega because it's cheap (free), fast and simple to upload and store.

Actually, every cloud storage has their own "problem". When I used DropBox also there were people complainingthat they could not download, only because they needed to do literally just 1 extra click.

I have no idea what this means. As I said, the documentation is terrible. I see the terms "folder" and "sync" used, but no explanation. Also, the file that was downloaded is a .mega file, is of a different size than what Chronicles of Mankind.rar is, and I have no idea what to do with it.

So, what folder am I trying to synchronize to?

Exactly what file do I move there?

What do I do then?

I can't find the answer to any of these questions in the Mega Help Center. Keep in mind that I'm old, so there are undoubtedly things that you've picked up that, because I was already in my thirties when the Web was invented, that I never did.

I had an event pop up where some guy in my empire offered to exploit a Geothermal event to provide power continent-wide for 9900 gold and I accepted it. But like 10 turns later, suddenly all at once the power went out everywhere and I'm back to building individual power plants per city. What happened?

I have no idea how you ended up like that, I have never seen a .mega file 🤨
You should try downloading the rar file again.

I don't know. Upload a save or two. Best would be one before and one after the black out.

I recommend changing the ini file to keep not 5 but 50 autosaves.

Everything you mark as synchronized will be downloaded to the dedicated folder on PC picked in the app. Or there are buttons to just pick what to download:

Transfer manager is accessible by right-clicking the tray icon or this:

After that you unpack the archive into BTS/Mods.

If you still can't download, you could delete temporary file in either C:\Windows\Temp or somewhere in C:\Users or try a different browser.

At this point it was at least 100 turns ago, sorry

I'm starting to get frequent memory allocation crashes so I try not to rely on autosaves but create my own manual saves every time I feel a crash coming.

Hey all - is this basically a new and updated version of ROM:AND? Is it playable until the late game or still being developed? Cheers!

I'd say that CoM is a succession mod of AND2.
It's playable until the late game but is still in development. I'm trying to fix bugs, balance the game and add new and exciting features.
Hope you will enjoy it 🙂

What's wrong with the late game? Aside from the Memory Allocation Failure crashes, I've been doing fine in it. I've actually had fewer crashes than I did with ROM AND

if you're open to suggestions, i have two extremely minor ones you could probably ignore if you want; the damage penalties for units that go too far afield, I think that the distance they can go should be expanded a bit just because in some situations it made for normal exploration and expansion impossible, especially when there was a new world continent that was too far off for anyone to start colonizing until the 1800s late Industrial era.

Also the time scale should be a little slower near the late game. Everything was mostly historically accurate but once I hit the 1860s the turn lengths slowed and the tech picked up and now it's 1903 and we've got submarines, tanks, machine guns, aircraft carriers, radar, and soon nukes.

I personally addressed that by shifting some maintenance to irreducible (except by Organized) civic upkeep from population. It's great for enabling stronger civics, can be refunded through free military upkeep and limits advantage in food.
