The team has already voted to place our 3rd City on Jennilund...

So where should we place our new city on Jennilund?

    1. Site "X" will get the Horse And Clam in the small cross and immediately connect culture with Themiscyra. It will also give us 5 forests to chop, and 3 rivervine grasslands to farm or cottage.

    2. Site "Z" will give the Horse and Clam in the small cross and 1 additional Clam in the BFC. It will be slightly remote from Themiscyra. There will also be 4 forests and 3 rivervine grasslands. Site "Z" burns a forest.

The site "X" will give 3 rivervine grasslands not 2 (you miss the NW one in BFC)

I want dora to go SW before I vote. I want to see if the southern clam is a feasible spot for another city.

I agree that I want the 2 clams in the city. More important I think than losing the forest.

One clam is as much food as a rice tile without a lighthouse and with a lighthouse it will be the same as our sheep. If we only have the one clam, we'll need to farm more of the riverside grasslands than we would if we had two. Two just makes growth a lot easier. And you can always share the second clam with our city to the south or with a city across the canal on Mathaton.

Working the forest tiles is pretty much a non-factor for me, as I don't think we'll ever do it once we have an improved tile. By settling on a forest we do lose the 20 (30 with Math) hammers from the chop.

I don't see us realistically working the forest tiles after we get up an improved tile, at least not until we have lumbermills. Our production from this city is likely going to come from the Gh Horse tile and from whipping off the clam(s) and any Grass farms we build. If we really want this city to be a troop city instead of a cottage city, I think working the Horse, Clams, and Grass Farms and whipping is our best bet. I would not work a forest tile over a Grass farm tile. Whipping, even pre-granary, off of grass farms is better than working grass forests for production.

So as see it the city can be:

A.) A cottage city. In this case it uses clam(s) and a couple grass farms to grow onto all of the riverside grass cottages. Eventually the grass farms will be cottaged over. We don't want to whip too much in this city. The horse tile and plus whips and chops will build infrastructure (granary, library, etc.)

B.) A whipping production city. In this case it farms all riverside grasslands and works clam(s) and riverside grass farms to grow population and then gets most of it's production from whipping. The non-riverside grass can be workshopped which can be worked when growth is not desirable. The workshops aren't really good until later, but can get more hammers from them than a grass forest. We will be whipping as quickly as the unhappiness penalty wears off, or quicker if we need troops in a hurry. An efficient way to build troops by whipping is to 2- or 3-pop whip needed infrastructure and use the overflow to complete units in a 1 turn.

C.) A specialist city. In this case we farm everything just like in the whipping city, but we use the food to hire specialists instead of regrow whipped population. Whipping is still used for infrastructure.

    X city has:

    1 normal yield city center
    3 riverside grasslands
    9 non-riverside grasslands (5 with forests)
    1 grassland hill Horse
    5 plain coasts
    1 coastal Clam
    1 plain ocean

    Z city has:

    1 normal yield city center
    3 riverside grasslands
    10 non-riverside grasslands (4 with forests)
    1 grassland hill Horse
    4 plain coasts
    2 coastal Clams

    So the differences are:
-X city has one less grassland, but has an extra forest.
-Z city has an extra grassland and coastal clam, but one fewer coast tile and no ocean tile.

City Z is obviously a stronger city. A one-time chop value of 30 hammers (with Math) is not worth having a coast tile and an ocean tile in place of a grassland tile and a Clam tile. The only question is does one fit better with an overall city placement map. If they both fit equally well, then I think we should go for City Z
