Same with settler maps:
you can get this file
http://rhye.civfanatics.net/civ4/RFGW/citynamesmap.rar

and fill it with a civ you like.
Replace -1 with the name of the city, surrounded by " ",
Make sure you don't delete the " or the comma.

The best way to fill these maps would be to apply the name of a city to a 2x2 box, when possible. There's room for random city list on the right.
You can use RFC maps (included in the file) to help with city names in ancient languages.

good attempt. There's a few things to refine, but it will be done later.
For now, here's a screenshot of your contribute:

Well I hope it's a helpful starting point at least. I think I will start working on a Roman one, but it will probably take a while.

Any chance we could get a copy of the map to see where rivers, mountains, etc. are? It would make locating the inland cities easier.

A rough idea would be better than nothing. Knowing where the Alps are for the Italia-Germania border and such.

I've done Phoenicia, after investing (too) much work in it.

Of course there's many Roman or Greek names since nowadays we don't have much left regarding Punic names and language. And there's some anachronisms, like cities founded by the Carthaginians, but those are Punic too, right? I learned a lot af stuff about Phoenicia doing this! :D

I'll probably do Carthage a bit later, maybe during the weekend. It shouln't be hard as many cities are the same.

Couple links for reference for Etruscan and Roman cities. The Etruscan links are from Wikipedia. I'm sure you can find them on your own, but it's just to make your life a little easier.

Roman Cities (big map)

Etruscans:

You can click the etruscan region, then click on a city and read up some history for each of it (history in italian, sorry).

Italic peoples in general:

Carthage done.

It's based mostly on the Phoenician map, with some changes:
- Mastia becomes Qart Hadasht
- Motya partly becomes Lilybaeum
- New names in inner Hispania
- Kartaia moved east a bit because its four squares wound up being mountains
- New setup in the core area (you might want to make the same changes in the Phoenician map too)
- Some sites in Italy
- Nothing in Phoenicia proper

Roman Italy!

I used several duplicate names on adjacent tiles, as RFC does. I do think that the map has too much room up by the Alps, and not enough in central and southern Italy. I have a square of Mediolanums, but only two Romas or two Neapolises.

Well, spaceman98 basically took over and made some improvements only about 3 months ago, here. I heard that there's a serious bug with the latest version, though.
