Spoiler :

Moscow is in good shape, 3 deer + furs with +1 :c5food: from camps

However, not really a lot of luxes going on with this map. I have room to expand, but not sure how.

First instinct is to settle on the hill on the south coast and try to get the two luxes there, but Wu will not like it (and will possibly beat me there anyway, or settle a city close to that that will suffocate it).

Moscow is going to grow fast so Im thinking two cities > NC/time to get infrastructure and trade going for more happiness > 2 more cities...east of the lake perhaps? Also should be enough to work with up near wittenberg. Iron will play into my decision too of course, need to reveal that...but those locations should be available for a while

Immortal/Pangea

Honestly, I don't really see any particularly good spots. Consider going Liberty and kill China with CBs, it's Immortal so you should have little trouble

I'd do 3 2 city NC liberty domination, with the expos planted:

1. On the hill two hexes NE of the truffles by the coast (2 hexes from the marble)
2. On the coast by the river, one hex NW of your spearman

Do the one towards Wu first so she doesn't steal the spot.

[EDIT: You know what, forget the 2nd expo. I've just seen the tundra. Not farmable. Do 2 city NC and then Annex Wu's cities if they are any good.]

Tight map. If you wanted 4 cities I think you needed to have been building nothing but setters as soon as you hit pop 4. Workers can wait. I assume you went Tradition? What is the map type?

If you can still get there, I like the hill on river next below the two mountains for first expo. Second expo is south of that on inland sea. Third expo is SE on coast. It will very low production, but you want some option for boats.

Is there space for a coastal location between Wittenberg and Zurich? Maybe on the deer? If so, that could be a good option, especially since (like you said) Wu will beat you the good land between you and her.

What consentient said. On Immortal you want to be aggressive early on. If you can cap Beijing before Wu gets KKNs then all the better(even better if you don't meet anyone else). I'd change production from the worker to a settler and get some archers out.

I think peaceful play is still a fine option. 4 cities should be viable for a couple reasons:

- You have a lot of spice, and contact with enough AIs that early trades should be possible.
- Zurich looks to be an easy friend/ally, just wait to clear that camp until you have a quest. If it has a unique that will prop up your early-mid game expansion. Hopefully it is not hostile.

In terms of placement.

- It would be great to get a truffle city - especially that truffle, marble city - but then you'll need gold for tile purchases. Ideally your spear would be in the contentious area so a cold war with China could be maintained until you have the cities you want. In this game I think you'll loose that spot - China looks boxed in to the South. The marble should still be yours, though.

- Getting two cities that can swap Cargos on the Southern coast should be solid. Does the sea wrap around the CS to the SE?

- The wheat/lake area also looks nice for growth. There is a possible wheat/double fish/horse city that might be nice ... especially if it can trade Cargos with the (truffle)/marble city.

- A city in the North (by the river, probably on a coast) could be the last settle, maybe even post NC if you want to give yourself more time to sort out happiness.

I don't like the second worker build, but now that you have only 4t remaining you may as well finish it and chop out settlers.

That'd be a 3-city start for me. One by the river & southernmost mountain with Truffles on 3rd ring and the other one by the sea Marble & Spices on 2nd and Truffles & Spices on 3rd ring, few archers, DoW Wu & let the xp flow in.
On the long term some tiles need to be bought but easily defendable with quick access to China later on even against GW. Also, there should/could be a scout camping on the cow near Chinese Marble a) for stealing workers & b) preventing her settling to North.

Thanks for the responses, I still have so much to learn about this game.

And warmongering is definitely my weakest aspect, which is why I'm hesitant to do it, especially early.

Good news is, I was able to found the city on the inland sea. Even better, it has an iron hill.

I think ill have enough happiness now that I've secured that spot

Here is the current state of things as I prepare to escort settler #2:

Spoiler :

Now Im thinking I might crowd Manilla and settle on that hill which would allow me access to the silk below and should be a decent city despite giving up a lot of space to Manilla (what is the diplomatic penalty for GG bombing a CS anyway?) and also allow me to pump some food into St Pete which should have some pretty nice production

Of course that will piss off Maria (Wu hasnt vocalized her disgust of St Petersburg, but I'm sure its there) and I will be forced to deal with some angry ladies for certain.

But figure that will be city 3, then do NC, then get the horse/wheat city which will have low production for a while but should be ok in the long run. Or forget about the horse wheat city and take vienna or beijing as #4 (I dont need the horses for a little while anyway)

Where is the iron? I usually want to know that ASAP for city placement decisions.
