Civ 1 Map File

Hi to all. Can somebody tell me where I can find the layout for the Civ 1 (Dos) .map and .sve files. Or perhaps somebody would like to share their knowlwdge with me. Help in this direction will be greatly appreciated.

darkpanda is (I'd say) currently the most active person deciphering .sve format. I'd suggest you to search on all threads/potst started by him

.map files have the same format as .pic files, contains 10 layers of .map data

Basically, the best starting point is JCivED - there's a source code for it, containing reading routines for .pic file format (which is essentialy a RLE-encoded and LZW compressed bitmap)

I second everything Renergy wrote above, and I'd like to add: I've wanted to publish precise and complete documentation about the PIC/MAP format, but it got lost in my priorities (also, the exact LZW algorithm is not very obvious to describe in a simple way)... But it's still on my to-do list
