Bug: game randomly crashes, no specific point it just dies back to the desktop or i get that stupid "Civ3 casued an error or Civ3" message (or whatever the bloody hell it is.
Solution: None. ALL guidelines by Firaxis fail to resolve problem. Tried reinstalling clean system, using old graphics drivers, and literally the latest (last weeks). Same problem occurred.
Conclusion 1: Direct X9 is pants. I had a few probs with DX8 especially with older games but nothing on this scale.
Conclusion 2: Windows is pants. I have got Civ3 v1.21 for Mac OSX and it has never crashed or failed to load once. If Civ3 Conquests comes out on Mac the pc version is going to the bin (with the PC).
Bug: files in a normal single player game are apparently saved ok but when loaded either:
(a) Cause the civ3 in civ3 error and crash
(b) hang the system at 38% loaded
(c) hang the system at 100% loaded
(d) caused an "Error in... tile message" at around 38%
(e) caused an "Error in... CTZN" message (at around 30%)
(f) caused an "Error in...CITY" message (at around 30%)
(g) result in bruising of the cat (I know it shouldnt do it)
Solution: Shoot Bill Gates. Not practical but Id feel better.
Conclusion: Dreadful coding. Sloppy, crass appalling coding.
If anyone wants the files to verify this - ive got ones from a recent game. If anyone also has suggestions as to what my NVidia GE400MX 64MB is playing at...just in case its my graphics card...feel free to reply.
Lastly, I have suggestion - why cannot the game be coded to operate within Windows on the desktop a la Civ 2?...which by the way, has never crashed on PC or MAC.
