Dear All

I am playing Conquest on a 1.7g machine with 256mb ram, its the late 20th century playing a full game, there are 10 other civs with loads of cities each, the time it takes the computer to have its turn is about 60 seconds+, question if I upgraded to a 3.4g cpu would the time be a lot less?

Any help would be good.

Regards

the 3.4 processor would probably help a lot. But thats a tiny amount of ram, and would be cheaper to add another 512 than to upgrade the processor (which would also help a lot)

I have a 2.6 Ghz P4 and a gig of RAM. I usually play on large maps with 11 AI opponents. The speed for me is acceptable. I'll usually have to wait a few seconds while the AI takes it's turns, but it's bearable.

I have a 2.4Ghz Celeron processor but only 256 MB RAM and I have some problems, I also sometimes run out of virtual memory if I have another application or 2 in the background. I will be upgrading to 512MB pretty soon.

I remember when a 177Mhz processor and 64MB RAM felt like having a supercomputer on your desk...*sigh*

ram does make the difference, had 512Mb until a couple of days ago when one 256Mb module failed failed, it has made a huge difference, struggling to play at the moment

Riker,

You left out the most basic info: what OS? W98 RAM should help. XP RAM above 512 ignored. For XP don't have multiusers on system or it will be slow. Graphic card with lots of RAM onboard would probably help the most. 256 RAM is too small with any Windows OS, but you may not need to go to 1 Gb.

Presume you have tried the easy preference solution and turned off sound and most animations. I only have enemy and battle animation on. Sometimes if I am impatient I turn off battle animation as the game zips along in Modern Era.
