I'm currently trying to install Civ 3 complete on my Linux pc by using wine.

As I can tell from experience, the installation of my version is always a bit tricky.
Even on Windows it can take multiple attempts, because the it needs to be installed from three different cd-roms, which all contain a part of the data to install it.

When I'm trying to install it on Linux, shortly after I replaced the first disk with the second one and continued the Setup process, i get the following error message:

I've already tried various things including copying the cd-roms data and then run the installer without them, but I get the error message anyway.
Does anybody knows how to fix or bypass this issue?
Thanks in advance!

Hi, I tried to run Civilization III on Linux a few times in the past using Wine / Proton and such, and there are several issues with audio and graphics that have been reported many times.

In the end I'd just recommend people to use a Windows XP virtual machine, Civ 3 is a 2D game and it works just fine on the VM, no problem at all. WinXP is also a light OS for modern standards to the VM does not need a lot of RAM.

Not strictly needed, but for best results install the Windows XP QXL driver from https://www.spice-space.org/download/windows/qxl/ and use QXL / Spice to launch the VM (I used QEMU).

(FWIW the same VM can also be used to run Civilization II)

That's my recommendation, I hope it helps!

Thanks for the help

For myself I've already found another solution.
I've brought the GoG version when it was on sale, installed it using Wine and it worked out of the box without any Problems.

Nevertheless thanks for the useful Ideas.
