Hi guys...
Been a long-time Civ4 BTS player. I do have a couple rambling questions that hopefully can get answered before too long.
First...I'm getting myself a new computer this week after I get my paycheck. I have played Civ4 BTS forever on a noticeably obsolete machine.
I'm using currently using:
Sony Vaio
Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.53 GHz
512 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6200
....Needless to say 512 MB does not agree with huge maps well. I can play small maps to game completion but even standard sized maps strain the computer (even small maps depending on the amount of civs I use).
So my question is what capabilities do I need to run Civ4 BTS with FULL graphics settings on HUGE maps with the max amount of civs to game-completion?? Don't take into account anything else I need the computer for because all I use my computer for is: iTunes listening, internet exploring, Civ4.
I ask because I think I've read that Civ4 -the game itself - can only use 3 GB of RAM anyway...so getting 8 GB of RAM may not even matter??...so is getting a computer with 6 GB of RAM going to do me much more justice than one with 4 GB....or would going full-board for an 8 GB RAM and quad-processor really present a noticeable game play difference from 6 GB RAM?
I'm not sure...I know enough about computers about what not to get...but am not sure what I should really look at getting myself this week?
Goals:
Use GEM map (ridiculously huge) WWII scenario (40+ civs) along with..
Full graphics settings
Would really appreciate some thoughts/suggestions on making the above goals possible...or...if they even are possible for Civ4BTS?...and...what kind of turn times I'm looking at for that with a superior machine...
