Civ 4 vs Social Relationships

I wouldn't call any of those social relationships. Plenty of antisocial people have spouses/boyfriends/girlfriends/etc.

After being widowed a few years ago, I have finally found Ms. Right once more. She makes the birds sing and the bees buzz, and we're as happy as two "not quite allowed to be married" girls can be.
I play Civ, and she bends molecules, and we bore each other silly telling each other about it.

Long time civver here. I have never played a game of civ without being involved in a serious relationship. I guess that means my civ and love life are quite intertwined. I mean, what is there not to like in that sort of a symbiosis?
For instance, I learn micromanagement i.e. commerce, culture and growth; diplomacy i.e. bribery, attitude problems, behaviour; war strategies i.e. combat odds, terrain (ground) strength-weakness offense and defense; "map" awareness and many other tips and skills all of which can be applied to some extent in civ and a relationship. It's a fine mesh if you ask me.

Let's see... Civ player from all the way back to the first one (and yes, I can also include the board game, if you want!), been through all of the categories listed. Single when I started, then girlfriend. She went off to college in another state after graduation, so single again, then single by choice for a while. Briefly back into the dating category, and now married. Also, son. (He's a little young for Civ just yet - not even a year. But rest assured, I'll teach him when he gets old enough to use the mouse for something other than a chew-toy!)
I appreciate the sentiment, but no expressions of sympathy are necessary, please. I only mentioned it because it is a statistical fact, and it's part of what I am, and how that relates to this thread.
We lose people all of the time. That's life. We recover.
I prefer to think of the positive aspects of it all. The person responsible for her death is now very active in the cause of preventing others from drinking and driving, and helping the people left behind from these tragedies.
If you feel the need to comment on that post, I'd rather you tell one of your friends to take a cab before he or she gets behind the wheel drunk. Maybe you'll save a life.

Single. I don't even have any friends, so I probably don't know what I'm missing. Being antisocial has it's upsides as well. Quite a few, actually, especially if you're 17 and look like the Caucasian version of Surayvaman (no slur)...
I don't know how you can find Civ IV boring... I mean, you can find it annoying, aggravating, appalingly (What's a synonym to 'unjust that begins with 'a'?)... but even my cousin, who can't stand PC games on principle, agrees that it is NOT boring.
Then again, we both like books and Mahler symphonies more satisfying than people, so maybe we're way outside the usual scope of humanity.

Hmm, interesting thread. Well, as a member of a religious order in the Catholic Church, I guess I check 'single by choice'! But I would like to point out (a) that I joined the Order before I started playing Civ, so it didn't drive me into the cloister(!) and (b) I have a very active social life, both with the twenty-odd people I live with and loads of friends and family outside.
Here's the weird thing: I almost never run priest specialists or have a religious economy, although I have done in my shadow of Madscientist's Dalai Lama RPC. Much prefer scientists, as a rule.

Engaged (checks over shoulder) until the summer then doomed after that. She mocks me for my strategy games and I mock her for playing WoW a bit, it's a good deal all around.
What she really hates is when we do battletech games somewhere as she doesn't get why I would travel across NA to play a game with people for a weekend or WORSE have them over to my place.

Single, although I'm trying to improve my relations with a so-called girl, I have a +9 diplomacy relationship with her at the moment, although I don't think she is too keen with me, +4 I think. Think I might trade some of my crab for her fish and take it from there.

I'm also a teenager. I'm single, but wouldn't mind a girlfriend. So far, I've just kept my civ addiction hidden from my ex's.

I can't remember the amounts of times I just turned "designated driver" for the evening just to prevent people from making the drunk-driving mistake!
Married; don't play that much Civ. Do occasionally play "Game of the Month"s because if I'm going to spend a few hours on a computer game, having a (slight) social aspect it is quite nice (but I can't guarantee to be available for X hours solid, so actual multiplayer wouldn't work).
