Hi everyone,

Ever since a tried Vox Populi a 6 - 7 months ago I have not been able to play more than 200 turns.

I've tried running only Vox Populi without any other mods and the result is the same. I also spent quite a while searching for solutions on here and elsewhere but have not found anything that might help. I doubt that it is a hardware issue as I have top of the line PC (4090, i7 13700k 32 GB RAM). I'll copy the MiniDump file of the most recent crash (as for some reason I cannot attach it.) The error appears to be quite generic. Does anyone have any advice on how this can be resolved? I do play on Huge maps but I've never had this issue with other mods enabled, being able to play even until turn 1000, so I am struggling to comprehend how the crashes can be attributed to this in specific. Thank you for your assistance!

Probably memory issue, try to desactivate yield icons, do not use EUI, turn down some graphic options (at least leader quality to "minimal").

This a big problem for Civ5/Civ5VP: the game can only use up 4 gb of ram+vram because it's a 32 bits game...

Can you load an autosave and continue ? Or it's repeatable ?
I can only play for a turn or 2 before it crashes randomly when I am opening up a menu, move a unit or just move the map in general. I will reinstall without the EUI and will report back tomorrow, however I am a bit sceptic that it has anything to do with it as there are thousands of people here who play complete games with Vox Populi. I even reviewed the error complaints on GitHub and there are only 3 complaints of a crash to desktop so in comparison it is not that common of an issue ( even when people are playing with 30+ civs).

I've also played with a lot of mods enabled that combined are more intensive than Vox Populi (social policy change, new eras, Future word, Smart AI, more unit mods, etc) and I have not experienced crashes like this in every game around turn 200.

Thank you for your suggestions, really appreciate any support or insight on how this can be resolved.

"I can only play for a turn or 2 before it crashes randomly" --> 100% memory issue. VP has a big memory consumption problem. Your issue is really common.

The thing that should help you the most is to turn off yield icons when you hit turn 200.

Been playing VP for years. Always had random CTD's here and there. Started getting worse and I did what others here have suggested. Disabled yield icons, lowered visual quality, and I try not to have a worker selected at the end of my turn (as they will highlight tile yields, and that seems to use more memory). I also autosave every turn (for 10 turns). If I need to reload I try to make some different moves than when it crashed, and specifically unselecting worker before I click 'next turn'.

Do you zoom all the way out on your 4K screen or something? Don't.

Cant personally help. With recent updates i get near zero crashes in single player and only occasional in multi.

My computer specs arny particulatily special either. Middle of the road.

Maybe try a full Reinstall where you dont just click uninstall, but also delete all remaining files.

I'm starting to think that the higher are the specs of your PC, the higher are the chances of CTD due to memory consumption.

I really think memory consumption should be one of the main focus for VP, because when 4K will be mainstream it will be unplayable :/

Thank you for all of your replies quite a few of them and I will address each one:

I do not have a 4K monitor, I however do play the game at 1080 with 144 refresh rate. This is the only thing I have not really modified trying to troubleshoot. Is there a specific guidence on what the viewport settings should be?

I have already done this a few times without any effect. Could you be playing smaller maps with 2- 4 civ by anychance? The number of civs in my game is usualy about 10 at around turn 200.

In general I do believe that the most prominent crash is when opening the tech tree. It imidiatelly crashes if it is not the first turn after a save reload after turn 190+.

Again, I would like to make a note that I do not experience any of this if I play without VP. The mods that I have without VP are supposed to consume significant amount of RAM, so I am really struggling to make that connection. The error that I get c0000005 does appear to be a memmory leak though.

I play large maps 10 civs. Sometimes huge.

My laptop has 144Hz screen and when I first played VP it would become laggy and a bit unstable for some reason. I ended up using Nvidia Control Panel to limit the fps for civ to 60Hz and it's been fine ever since. Not saying this will def help you - probably issues with my hardware/drivers.

You could try using the Unit Scaling and Formation mod, which has options to reduce the number of unit models. Someone suggested it before and it seemed to alleviate memory consumption enough to avoid CTDs for him.

I haven't tried it yet, so I can't tell from experience.

On 1080, you shouldn't zoom out more than once when opening the tech tree, or at all in late game.

My advices:

For solo play the most important is to set “Leader Scene Quality” to “Minimum”. Using standard or small maps also help.Turn off “yield icons” when you enter industrial era and for the rest of the game. Also try to not zoom-out too much when opening the tech tree. Non-EUI VP uses less memory than EUI VP.
