Civ 5 digital deluxe coming exclusively to Steam! Steamworks confirmed!

You can put steam in "offline" mode once you've validated the game, and then there is no need to log in in order to play.

You can't go into offline mode without valid credentials. If he's lost his credentials for whatever reason, he has to log back in. This is also true if you're already set to offline mode and the file becomes corrupted.

Yes you need to go online to reinstall the game if you suffer filesystem corruption.

Sorry I guess I'm just not seeing this as any sort of problem.

You probably put it in offline mode while you were still with an internet connection. In that case it works fine.

If however you're in a situation where your internet connection actually crashes or drops, validating your credentials or whatever you call it cannot be done so you can't even log into offline mode. It's a very common problem. You may not have experienced it but thousands have. Probably more than 10s of thousands have. Understandably many wouldn't even complain about it because the problem would last only as long as they didn't have their internet back up, something which typically doesn't take very long (it was a couple of hours in my case).

They are very similar. Steam requires Internet to install. Ubisoft requires Internet to install and play. Sometimes I feel sorry for you that you can't comprehend such simple concepts. It's not your fault though, you were just born that way.

They are totally different.

EDIT: Also buyer beware some of the falsehoods Uber-Pro-Steam users are saying. They are misrepresenting the reality of Steam for their own evil purposes and want you to become part of the collective.

They want you to get virus', be unable to play games you purchased, be internet profiled on your purchase, be required to make unrelated purchases to play the game, have your computer Data-Mined by Valve, increase the vulnerabilities in your OS for malicious user attack, and the list goes on.

Some of us, are simply looking out for the people, to make everyone 'aware' of what they are getting. Some here are telling falsehoods and deceiving you from the truth. ;)

Perhaps I should explain it more in-depth. Steam creates a special file when you log in, and this file is used for authorization when attempting to play a game in offline mode. If this file is missing or damaged, you cannot enter offline mode.

Your game is still perfectly playable, assuming you can log in. Sometimes Steam bugs out and you have to manually delete the file yourself before everything works properly again. If you log onto your account from another computer while logged in, your credentials are lost. If you tell Steam to not store those credentials because you're using a shared computer, you can't go into offline mode.

That sounds like a whole lot to do (just for this 1 problem of Steam) when all people want to do is play the game they just dished $50 out for (during a global economic recession).

OMG.
That sounds like the app store is something godsend to bring salvation to humanity.

What you maybe don't know is that it's one of the most fasc...no, i don't say that...it's one of the most restricted "shops" out there.
They restrict with what kind of language you can develop.
They ban applications for maybe nothing, don't give you a reason for that and don't give you any instructions how you could do it "right".

Buying apps from there is like letting steve himself decide for you.

Because it's the only program which requires at a certain point an internet connection and is bound to an account.
The other's are not.

yes, also why does your name mean "small fierce"? with fierce as more of barbarian...

The file is there by default. You actually have to tell steam not to save that file for it not to be there. You make it sound like you have to predict when you will not have internet and set things up in advance, but if you use steam normally that is already done for you.

Yes, the file is there by default. I was giving examples of situations where the file may not be available, and the user has no alternative but to go into online mode.

I don't mean to imply that everyone will run into these problems when using Steam, but they should be acknowledged as potential problems that may arise. I've had to delete the file myself on at least one occasion, and I normally use Steam in online mode.

I think the name is supposed to be translated as 'little bear'.

I am interested in knowing more about this. Does it mean that on that occasion where I was locked out of Steam's offline mode, deleting a file could have allowed me to get in?

At the moment, it seems I do have to try and predict when my internet will crash in order to prevent the possibility of being locked out of steam.

the problem youve highlighted is a weird one eh - it must be a temporary bug. I dont really care about it so maybe you should follow the correct procedure to notify steam of the bug, so that they will resolve it.

Yes, but not only.
If i'm over 18 and i want to watch porn, it should be my decission and not someone elses.
But also the app from a german political magazine ("Der Spiegel") had been banned because of an erotic image gallery.
But the Playboy is still in.

And they've labeled the Opera browser as 17+, because you can watch "inappropriate" content with it.

And there are other cases, where things have been banned without a reason, and developers waiting for their money (also without giving a reason).

And what should I do? I went into the Steam Support menu in the Steam software and it takes me to a webpage. Do I have to sign up for a Steam Support account as well? I really don't understand why I'd need yet another separate account.

EDIT... Anyway, I did go and create a new account for contacting steam support. I've sent them a question about my issue so I'll see how that goes and report back when I have news.

Can't you just set your credentials to save?
Isn't that already done by default? If so, I wouldn't have changed it from the default so I don't think what you suggested is it.

EDIT... I have posted my findings here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=9236563&postcount=71

it looks like you have problems with authority - not specifically steam, just authority generally. if youre interested in bug notification you would do better to make a statement than ask a question. To ask a question is to make an enquiry, so they may treat your question as such and thus not deal with the real issue.

And what on Earth makes you think you should be speculating on problems I have? If you're suggesting I treat Valve employees as if they are an authority over me then I think you have a misunderstanding of the relationship I have with them. I'll thank you not to go into personally discussing me as well, as it's irrelevant to the discussion.

I went and signed up a Steam Support account and asked the question because I could not find anywhere to post a bug report. That said, I have reported the bug in the Steam Users forum as well, but it has gone unanswered there so I expect that reporting bugs in the forum is not the proper "procedure".

Please, help me out by suggesting to me how I am supposed to report a bug? Relatively speaking, I'm still a Steam newbie so I'm not used to these things. Note in general I rarely contact technical support for anything because do not find the time investment to be worth my time. Then again, usually the reason I never contact technical support for anything is that I can find answers with some simple use of googling. In the case of this bug, there is no official answer nor any unofficial answer I've seen yet.
