Has there been any word yet if CIV 5 is in the making? possible release date . BOttom line is I can't wait:D

No point bumping this really. They'll be concentrating on CivRev this year for the consoles (CivLite if you like) which is most definately not Civ 5...it's not linked to the PC Civ lineage.

There are plenty of Civ 5 threads about, mostly conjecture and wish lists, but my gut feeling is that Civ 5 will probably hit for Christmas 2009/Q1 2010...in the meantime BtS will mature like a good cheddar, with no more expansions.

But then again, I know nothing. :)

That sounds about right.....but what do you think they would improve upon? More religions? More civs? More Eras (Baroque, Enlightenment would be nice...:mischief: )?

I think that they will make all of these, and improve stuff in ways I can't think.

My feeling is: Look for Civ V in your local game store at March 15, 2009 or March 15, 2010. I hope they keep Baba Yetu and Coronation.

My gut (again, I must see a doctor) tells me that the next Civ will be revolutionary as opposed to evolutionary. I'm very happy with it as it is now, but this is the first version I've played to any great depth. I can see a big change, much like the big change that Empire Total War will be compared to previous Total War games (boy am I looking forward to that one).

I'd like to see religions have specific differences but that may incite riots and I doubt it'll happen (but having slavery is OK hmmmmm....).

I think the AI is pretty good when it comes to running its own economy, but warring still needs improving. Why would the AI declare war when I have Rifles, and send one Mace and one Treb as happened to someone on the boards recently? It should never happen.

A hex based grid will make for even pretty looking land and the possibility of more workable tiles when you've grown in the late eras.

Like I say though, generally I'm happy with the way things are.

I read some rumors on these forums some time ago that Firaxis was busy with a new game (not Civ revelution) but that wasn't Civ 5 but something like alpha centauri

There's been loads of similar threads on Civ 5. One of them mentioned that Sid has a simple formula when bringing out a new version.

1/3 old, 1/3 updated and 1/3 new.

Just putting out more religions, more Civs, more units isn't worth a new release. Also I'm not sure about hex grids, doesn't that only give 6 options when moving (currently 8)?!

Yup, no east and west movement (depending on orientation of the map grid...orientated the other way gives no north and south).

Hex map on wikipedia...

The AI never declares war when a civilisation refuses to adopt their favourite civic. I hate when a rival civ has that "no non-state religion spread" civic and I want to spread my religion there. Also, think about how many wars the U.S. has started (in real life) because it doesn't like the "State Property" civic.

I can't think of a single one. The only wars the US has fought since such became prevalent:

WW2 - Started by Germany and Japan. We were also attacked directly by Japan.
Korean War - Started by North Korea when they invaded South Korea. Just as we were finishing the war, China decided it wasn't bloody enough.
Vietnam - No telling when that actually started, but the beginning of our involvement was when France decided they'd had enough. Our involvement was a disasterously-stupidly-executed attempt to cease the depredations from North Vietnam against South Vietnam, though the Chinese were certainly the main instigators behind the scenes.

Anything else I missed? Maybe the Iraq thing? The first was started BY Iraq and we were asked for help by the invaded neighbor. The second was really just a completion of the first, not unlike WW2 being a completion of WW1, but with less popular support.

The only really valid reason I can see why Civ doesn't use hexes is that hex-based games tend to assume the player is intelligent, whereas Civ is aimed at the masses and a handul of intelligent people play it. The only people clamoring for hexes are a minority of a minority, and maybe a couple people who think hexes are radical new technology.
