I've always wanted to sit down and play a whole mp game at once, or play for 24 hours straight, but I could only fit in a bit more than one hour per weekday and about 3 hours on the weekend.

What I plan to do when I retire is to purchase a cabin in Greenland with broadband connection and infinite supply of coke. I plan to pay 24/7 and may even beat Eyes of Night. BUT one problem.

I'll be 66 in 50 years, and Civ will definitely not exist then. People like John Valdez and Lefty Scaevola and Loaf Warden will be either over 90 or DEAD. There will be no one to play!

Sorry Vlad, but I will be 88 in fifty years or dead. Maybe the younger guys will still be around for you to play against, but I doubt if I'll even have enough brain power (if I'm still kicking) to play any game. Sorry.

I can't wait until I retire. I'll just play computer games all day long. I just have to wait another forty years.

Just picture it: all my grankids laughing at me becuase I play an ancient computer game. I get pissed and tell them to get their fat f***ing a**es back to their b****'s house. I'll be the first granparent in my family to openly cuss at my grandkids. Oh I can't wait.

Oh, never say never, Vlad. Civ is a classic game and there might be someone playing and some version to play, Sid Meier III's Civilization 38.

Dude, over 50 years from now there wil be new techs and super comuters I wander how Civ 38 will look like,

It will be nothing compard with the Civ that we now play....

How would it look like?!??

Consider this Vlad: They still sell Monopoly after more than 50 years.

Of course to make it marketable you'll have to buy the Deluxe Collector's Edition with the Original Two-Dimensional Game Presentation ("Wow, only 2 dimensions. How quaint!"). It will come with a special collector's CD even though no one will have a CD player anymore.

It will also have two "intelligence advisors" you can ask for game play advice. One, called "Dale of the Shadows" will give advice on achieving a high score. The other, named "Nocturnal Eyes" will suggest that you use the cheat menu. (jk)

There are some who call me...Tim

Some things can never be improved on as tim suggested, monopoly.

Other examples: Classic cars, classic movies, classic architecture, classic computer games

I still like a lot of the original NES games better than the games that the newer systems have put out.

That being said, people grow out of things whether they like it or not, and only time will tell.....

Now will civfanatics still exist in 50 years? And if so, will Vlad keep up his post count rate? If so, He'd probably cross the 100,00 mark pretty easy huh?

Over 90 in 50 years? Wow, Vlad, I'm really flattered that you think I'm in my 40s. Actually, I'm only four years older than you. I'll be 70 in 50 years, and I fully intend to still be playing Civ, even if it does seem a little outdated by then.

Some version of Civ will probably exist, simply because the idea behind Civ is one of the best ideas ever for a computer game.

Wether we'll play Civ2 probably depends on how good Civ3 will be, and any further sequels. But A version of Civ will be played for a long time.

Games set in a historical setting are just getting more and more popular, and more and more accurate. I think that in about 10 years we will have computers that are super-powerful, so that a game like Civ will be able to feature a map that is incredibly true-to life.

The problem is that the game will still have to be playable, you will need to get an overview, or you'll be lost in the streets of Niniveh somewhere. Even if it was possible, it wouldn't be practical for a Civ-type game to simulate the lives of a million individual cyber-Romans.

But I am optimistic, and I think we have only seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to games that simulate history in an enjoyable (and semi-accurate) way.

As much as I love Civ2, I HOPE I won't play it when I'm 60, simply because I would be really disappointed if nothing better had arrived by then.

You know, that brings up such a nice picture of CIV VR!!!....yes that's right you heard it here first, Virtual Reality CIV!!! Here M'lord Sit in your Virtual office to conduct negotiations and *zap* battle that phalanx in hand-to-hand and *zap* Full Sail and pull her to port and *zap* irrigate that field...become one with your game

Virtual Reality Civ? Never! Civ is a game of micromanagement, not a first person shooter!

Ooops, I humbly apologize I probably meant Stormerne. A lot CivFanatics sound the same.

Edit note:
Someone said that some things last forever, and Civ probably will. But look at it. See how fast computer technology is advancing! Games that were made 10 years ago don't "exist" anymore (except Civ1). No one even plays Command and Conquer, and its only 4 years old! Then think 50 years!!!

Ha ha ha!

Yep. I'll be dead in 50 years. Not in 40 years though.

In 40 years though...
We'll all be playing CivX.
We'll all still be posting to Thunderfall's forum.
We'll be arguing about which holographic icons we deserve for 100,000 posts.
We'll be known as the "Grand Old Men of Civ".

Meierism will be the dominant world religion.
No one will remember who Bill Gates was.
And I'll continue to walk to the supermarket knocking children out of the way
(only then I'll be using a cane to help me - for the backhand strokes at least).

Meierism? What's that for a religion?

I hope that some computer games will stand. I can't bear playing Civ in Virtual Reality. Fun post, stormerne.
