civ 6 is a good game with issues.

I do not really bother to turn up to the forum much anymore, too many civ4 is better, bitter people.
When there is more neagtive threads than positive you have just pushed the online world darker.
It is a game, and it is not a serious game, Sid never intended it to be such.
I was zooming with some old mates the other day and 3 out of 4 play civ 6 but never visit this forum
Now seems the best headspace to be in, online views are becoming too polarised.

Hmm, yea the discussion on /r Civ may be more productive, despite having the same exact concerns.

Ironically there were complaints there that here had better discussion; well...

Grass is greener on the other side; I have no comment because I have no grass to begin with.

Honestly, I'm more bothered by how repetitive some things can be; the insistence on dragging everything that tangentially relates to one topic is dull.

one thing civ 6 did BETTER than civ 4 is how they treated Korea. Korea is represented HORRIBLY in civ 4 as 1. wang gun looks CHINESE rather than Korea and 2. the background is clearly a throne room in Gyeongbokgung palace. This is anachronistic in the worst degree... almost like having William I as an English leader and have the background to be a MODERN BUCKINGHAM PALACE. Gyeongbokbung was built by Taejo Yi Seong-gye... guy who overthrew the dynasty Wang gun established. Not to mention Yi Seong Gye basically killed almost all of Wang gun's descendants. That is why even today surname of Wang is so rare in Korea. Most of Wang Gun's descendants were either killed or forced to change their surname in order to escape persecution....

it just seems so wrong to have founder of Goryeo living in a palace built by a guy who not only destroyed the country but also his descendants

Yeap. The problem is, how do you get trustworthy reviews or assessments? I mean, how do you know which ones are trustworthy? Are gaming sites' reviews believable? All of them? Some, and which ones? Are opinions in forums like this trustworthy? How much, and which ones?

Bottom line: hard to evaluate without trying, but also hard to know when to trust an opinion, especially the ones that are "highly positive" (given the history of the industry in general, and the franchise in particular).

Still, lesson learned.

True. Still, average of tens of thousands of reviews on Steam gives an idea of popularity at least.

Before when I checked General Discussions after a few hours, there'd be quite a few threads that would interest me enough to read that had new content and a lot more that wasn't what I was after but had new content as well. Last week I didn't check for nearly two days and there wasn't any new content at all when I came back. It's sad, but inevitable I suppose.

They need to announce Civ 7 and the hype will be back.

Historical accuracy is always a work in progress, but it's something that we're working hard on here. I think I'm the first professional academic on the team, although most of my predecessors in Civ6 worked hard with the art department to make things feel right both to history and to fans. I appreciate feedback like this and hope that the audience, too, will appreciate the attention to historical details moving forward!

dispite how many criticism I have in having Seondeok as a Korean leader... the way she is represented and having actual voice actress to voice her lines is miles better than anachronistic Wang Gun and weird and unnatural voice of Sejong the great in civ 5 ( which is so bad that when it came out it became a meme in Korea- almost the same level is nuclear Gandhi) I would have preferred if Korea had Sejong the great... but alas...

CiVI is not a good game. It's a game with a bad art style, bad music, gameplay that gets in your way all the time. Gameplay mechanics which you have to fight all the time instead of using them to achieve your goals.

I've been playing CiV lately and it is worlds better than CiVI. Across the board.

But even if it were a good game... let's buy the premise for a while, the one stated in the title. Let's assume it is a good game.

Herein lays the problem. A good game within the context and framework of an EXCELLENT concept and idea, which has been realized by earlier iterations, is still falling short, way short, of its potential even if you measure potential by just comparing it to said concept and framework. THAT is the problem with Civ 6. It may be a good game, but it should be at least on par with the encompassing concept of the game, which is, no doubt, EXCELLENT.

That contrast, at least to me, spells much like mediocrity.

Eh, these two points are subjective to personal opinion. You'll find many people who disagree with you on these particular points, especially on the music part. But hey, you'll probably find people who agree with you on both subjects, so really, it's just personal taste that determines it.

Hmm, reminds me of Civ 4's "Sitting Bull of the Native Americans". Yea that didn't go very well.

In CiV we had Edvard Grieg and Johannes Brahms. In CiVI we have awful 'fokie' sounding music on a loop. Played Hungary lately?
hungary is one of my favorite. Plus a lot of civ 6's music have a historical story in them. Just look at so many interview by Geoff Knorr
He poured out heart and love into the music and it shows.
let's compare Korean music.
In civ 5 we have this
while good it sounds too generic East Asian and don't sound too much like Korean. In fact if you listened to it blindfolded you could even say it sounds Chinese
While in civ 6 we have this
it sounds so much better and have a typical Korean feel to it. Not to mention Geoff Knorr collaborated with Korean bands to create this masterpeace of a music.
Both of them are biased on same music- arirang and yet Geoff knorr created better music by often interviewing/collaborated with locals
That's same with when he created with Cree theme, Maori theme, and Vietnam theme.
In fact apart from ancient civs whom we have ZERO info on their music Geoff Knorr tried REALLY hard to be historically authentic as possible.
Say what you will about gameplay, ai, UI... but MUSIC is one thing I will say Civ 6 got right to perfection.
Only thing that I miss is the war theme. But it's a minor complaint.

Considering Grieg was actively working to preserve folk music, he wouldn't approve of your elitist "classical music = good, folk music = bad" attitude. Same with Dvořak, Liszt, and many other Romantic composers.

I will agree that civ 6 has problems in gameplay, ai, ui and other stuff. BUT MUSIC IS ONE THING I WILL PRAISE ALL OUT FOR CIV 6 AND SAY IT IS BEST OF ALL CIV FRANCHISE!
CIV 6 MUSIC IS BEST!

I usually play civ while listening to something else, but I think both games have great music. I have no problem at all with folk songs being in the games, seeing as they're played fairly straightforward, even silly ones like Waltzing Matilda.

This is probably my favorite between the two though!

my personal favorites in civ 6 are Bablyon, Gaul. Vietnam, Portugal, Russia, Maori, Khmer, China and Korea

Civ 6 also got Christopher Tin back for the theme.
Sure it's no Baba Yetu, but Sogno di Volare is great in it's own regard.

It is a great track...but I've heard it so many times I kill my sound until the game starts. :p Great track, but not "listen to 800 times" great. :p I am glad they got Christopher Tin to compose the main menu theme, though, and I hope they do again in Civ7. If I can make a request, just use "Temen Oblak." :D

That's another piece to add to my "Play while doing Schoolwork" Playlist.

It's wonderful that they put so much effort into the music and you folks enjoy it so much, but in 3000+ hours of playing Civ VI I don't think I've listened to the music more than 30 hours. My same iMac that has the game on it also has over 4000 tracks of music that I liked enough to actually buy separately, so I don't play the game (any game) soundtrack much.
I mean, when I have Afro-Celt Sound System, Steeleye Span, Alasdair Fraser, Doc Watson, Clannad (early, not late), Silly Wizard, NovaMenco, Greatest Hits of 1721 (yes, it's a real album) - sorry boys, the game music is redundant, at least for me.
