Civ 6 King Level Ridiculousness

I honestly do not know what the game is doing on this play through. I know that each higher difficulty level the computer gets more bonuses. But this is ridiculous. Normally on King I'm in a fairly strong position by mid game, perhaps just a little behind the computer on tech and culture. But right now it's ridiculous. Every other civ is at least 1 full era of techs, the top being about 2.5 eras ahead and on culture everyone is at least 1.5 eras ahead of me, the top being again almost 2.5 eras beyond me. They are building wonders before I'm even getting to the required tech or culture. Their science output has been at a minimum 3x more than mine until the last 40 turns or so where now all but 1 civ is about 75% more science. Culture they are all at least 5x mine. I'm at turn 186 and only managed to crank out 7 cities at this point. Got room for maybe 2 more decent cities as otherwise the computer civs are too close. Could drop another 2 or 3 in tundra/forest tiles but don't have the tech necessary or food resources around the areas for them to do much so would be kind of a moot point. Now I will say I haven't played CIV in probably 6 months, but can't believe I'm that rusty. I have won on Emperor once or twice. Just no idea what I'm doing wrong on this. I've also been in dark ages 3 times now out of 5 era changes.

You don't describe anything about your game so the problem could be anything. Maybe you should have restarted instead of sticking with unproductive land, maybe you didn't crank out settlers quickly enough or settled them in bad spots?

There is the problem. The era progression is a mark of how well your game is going. If you lack options to get era score, perhaps you got a bad start; nobody likes being boxed in and being allowed to settle just a few cities. I often get crammed starts on King level and like to be peaceful and buildup... But sometimes war is an option, and AI is not very capable at this level. Sometimes the start is going badly, AI is picking all your goody huts and barbarian camps and city-states, but you never know before you explore that. If settling is a problem, the AI is always settling towards contested zones. In my recent game I preventively settled my first settler right in front of Trajans face, defensively, and it paid off, he declared war two eras later.

Soo, I think you experience nothing special. Maybe you did a few bad choices early and are reaping the harvest. Without more information, cannot say anything else. I wish you good luck anyway!

King difficuly lol... I'm beating Emperor difficulty like it's butter. Immortal and higher difficulty is just pure BS/flip of a coin.

If you wanna go online to make fun of someone playing on King, consider that rhe statement "Immortal and higher difficulty is just pure BS/flip of a coin" is not exactly indicative of your great ability either.

This.

Its probably a whole range of issues, but since we have no screenshot or similar to go by, its nigh on impossible to give any help here.

It is a flip of a coin when you get starting locations that are not winnable. Don't say Deity is always winnable please.

Don't make dumb strawmen either then.

The vast majority of positions are winnable on deity, barring some extremely rare positions where you will hard lose your capital on loyalty from the start with no way of getting more loyalty in time, or where the AI invades right as you finished your first build (and some of these are still winnable). We're talking less than a 1/100 chance of rare situation here where a game is truly unwinnable.

If you feel like it's a "flip of a coin" you aren't good enough to be playing on deity, simple as. And either way it's bad form to be making fun of someone's for playing on King, especially when you yourself are playing on Emperor.
