Welcome to Civ VII Game of the Month - 03
These games will allow new and old GotM fans to play Civ7 in a friendly competitive environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play.

How to Play
1. Please read our Must Read Rules and Game Details sections below for important information before playing.
2. Consult our Other Useful Information section below and ask spoiler free questions in this thread before starting your game if needed.
3. Click the 7otMxxx.Civ7save file attachment at the bottom of this post to download the Civ6 savefile.
4. Move the Civ7 savefile from your ...\Downloads folder to your ...\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VIi\Saves\Single folder. (This is the standard Civ67install location so please let us know if yours is different or you can't find it)
5. Load the 7otMxxx.Civ7save file in Civ7 and play the game adhering to all our Rules and Victory Conditions specified below. (In game, click Single Player, Load Game, 7otMxxx should be at the top.)
6. Once finished, report your results in the appropriate thread and attach your finished save game to your post in the final thread.

Must Read Rules!
We would like to ask you to please abide by our most sacred rule: Do NOT replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. (Gifting of cities is an exploit in a religious VC as the AI can't see that it will lose if it accepts the cities.)
We also ask that you don't use any mods - in testing we found that 'display only' mod changes actually had an impact on AI behavior. In the interest of sharing and learning, if you 'must' play with mods please state their use at the top of your AAR thread post.

Is that Redwood? Momentos?

Science / Maya ... There's some serious power-play potential here :crazyeye:
I can't see the screenshot, but i guess i'll see once i'm in the game.
Are we free to go for any civilization in Explo/Modern and change Mementos as we see fit?

Good eye, the scout and roman 2 policy slot.

I suggest a description of these momentos in the announcement, as well as a message not to change them.

yeah, are the Explo and Modern civs set, or can we choose our own? I think the assumption would be the latter.

I prefer to no restrict play choices more than needed, so you are free to choose whatever civ you unlock that you think you will enjoy. The exception for mementos is one of player balance. Since we can play the save mementos regardless of level of achievement, but would be restricted in later ages, i feel it best for balance to keep the initial mementos. I mean @Acken and @Eyswein are already so much better than most of us, it doesnt seem fair for them to have even more advantages :lol::lol:

So it's total turns over all 3 ages, not just total turns in the modern age right?
Just to be 110% sure :groucho:

oh, so even if I do own the DLC, they won't be "available" when playing that save? That's fine then!
I have all the dlc so would feel a lot more comfortable with a list of "acceptable" choices, but without that I will just play what I feel like. I understand that this is a friendly rather than a qualifying match, so we all learn by doing. (in my case, more errors than trials, but that's what makes it exciting). :hammer2: :hammer2: :old:

It will be interesting too see if we are restricted as i believe it to be. I didnt get any dlc options for exploration. (still grinding thru that)

We are not. I was able to take Great Britain as my modern age civilization.

I'm not a big fan of added restrictions, there's too many variables in this game anyway. Moving your Founder on T1 can change which and where independent spawns. Settling in some places can alter where later ages resources will spawn. Scouting east or west with your first scout can be the difference between peaceful expansion and being forward settled. I think we'll just have to accept that we are not playing the same game. We start with the same setup, but from there it starts to diverge more and more as the game progresses.
Part of the fun in GotM is seeing how some apparently slight decision changes can lead to vastly different results but with Civ7 the "butterfly effect" is stronger than ever and we'll have to live with it or remove any choice from the player (and still probably fail to provide an "even" playing field).
I'm not against some more "railroaded" games like the China GotM2 where we just had to take a Chinese dynasty every age, but it shouldn't be every game. There should also be games where we are free to take whichever Civilization we have available, or whichever Memento we have unlocked (most of the "high level" ones don't even seem stronger anyway and the basic attribute mementos that everyone will have unlocked after a game or two can be very good).

I suspect that we will have to include turning off dlc in the how to play going forward that or just accept that those who have dlc will have different games

Seems it would be easier for all to just define the civ we must play for each age. Turning off an on dlcs might be an annoyance for some. I don't know if dlcs add anything that would affect our games, but I would think with the define leader, mementos and civs it should be close to same.

Shall we have a poll with options fixed cultures, free choice and narrowed to 2-3 cultures each age?
