Sorry, I felt this would be the most appropriate subforum* has there been any official update on what Mac specs are likely to be enough for Civ 7

Is will a 2017 3.5 G Hz Quad-Core Intel with 40G of RAM likely be enough to run Civ 7 in a playable way?
*Mods please move or delete as appropriate

I’m using a similar 2017 Mac Pro. It’s went well for Civ VI. Did not face any issues with Mod (some self generated) as well. I have played with 12-15 Civilizations with 180x90 (self generated map) Map size.

The actual MAC specification are yet to be announced. But based on the demo and new gameplay mechanics that were announced, I deem the 2017 MAC (including your MAC specs) is more than sufficient to meet the game requirements.

I expect it to be Apple silicon-only. I’d be a little bit surprised if Intel is even supported.
Unlikely it’s for Apple silicon-only. If it true, then will use the Virtual machine software to run windows on my MAC.

I can only guess here, but I would expect that if your intel machine can run Metal 3, you might be able to play it - with potential performance drawbacks because it won't be optimized. But I wouldn't count on it if you are stuck with Metal 2. Intel macs have been discontinued for a while now and civ 7 is probably planned to be developed for 5+ years. Carrying support for a platform that has been outdated by many years then seems to be a suboptimal decision. Especially if later additions (such as bigger maps/more civs) increase the (official) minimum requirements. Then again, they seem to be doing the same for the Nintendo Switch.

I'll be very surprised if Intel Macs make the cut. It's highly likely that the Apple Game Porting Toolkit is being used to generate the Mac version from a lightly tweaked version of the Windows code base. It's been shown to be a highly capable tool in that regard, but AFAIK, it only supports Apple Silicon.

Noted your comments. Thank you. The actual Civ 7 specs for MAC computer is yet to be revealed. Probably will have to till confirmation before deciding the next course to action.

Sorry for missing this for so long, but hopefully someone can chime in and answer the question before release.
Thank you :) I know you guys work hard so I didn't want to create additional work for you

It appears that the game is Apple silicon-only for macOS.

Will modding be supported on Mac though? I know they didn’t for 5 and 6, but 4 did. I’m wondering whether to get a gaming laptop or a new MacBook.

I believe that there are mods for Civ V and VI. Maybe you need the Steam version rather than the Mac App Store version?

There’s no way to know, I think. I don’t think we’ve seen settings in any of the streams let alone what the machines have been (and they won’t have been Macs).
