Hi all!

Anyone can help me?

I want to play internet game but my Pc is behind a router and doesnt wabts to let in anyone to join my game! That what is interesting me is "which port is used by Civil" like Smtp "25" etc...in order that i can open it in the router??

*BUMP*

Does anyone know the specific port for an IP game of CivII: TOT?

I figured I'd ask before starting to experiment. I read all the other posts but didn't spot any answers.

This info is in the CIV 3 discussion. That's where I'll start my experimentation unless any one else has info. Surely one or two people have tried Civ 2 behind a router by now...

From Civ III FAQ
*TEXT REMOVED* it was not accurate to Civ II

all you have to do is log into your router find the DMZ specification area and find the ip of your computer and make sure it matches up with what you set for the DMZ ip and make sure the DMZ is on. Hope that helps.

Okay... thank you. And yes that would work, but it is a REALLY BAD IDEA.

NOBODY SHOULD USE THE DMZ SETTING! (If you are the exception to that rule, you've had advanced network training and you know you are the exception and you know why the rule generally holds true.)

So DO NOT assign your gaming computer to the DMZ.

A DMZ setting literally tells your router "SEND EVERY PROBE AND ATTACK FROM THE INTERNET TO YOUR GAMING COMPUTER"

A DMZ is a De-Militarized-Zone. There is a reason for the military references. Anything in the networks DMZ is on its own as far as the router is concerned and is fair game for any attacks, the router will not defend it. It is that computer's job to handle the attacks and isolate them from the rest of the network and maybe mount a counter attack (see also: Network tar pits).

Generally speaking, the DMZ computer should not be attached to the rest of your network, because it allows attacks to come in behind your lines of defense. Once a virus/worm/malware is behind your router, it is virtually free to move about the rest of the machines on your network. Chances are if you have CIV running on a machine behind your router, that machine is attached to the rest of the network. That's why this is a bad idea.

See http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=125892 for the proper solution.
