Civ II Vista Install

I found my old Civ II disk and tried to install it on my Vista 32 machine and it says it is successful but then at the very end it says there was a problem with the install and the program must end. I can start the game but after about ten to twenty minutes it crashes. I have been to the thread with the patch and I don't know that I fully understand what to do with it. Is anybody willing to walk me through it?
