Civ III Conquests Single Player Save Game File Editing

I saw somewhere where you could edit a vanilla CIV III save game file.

My question is it possible to edit a Conquests saved game file in SINGLE PLAYER?

I am doing this for personal enjoyment only.

What I was intending to do is say I am 300 or so turns into a 1000 turn game, on a huge map.

I was looking at placing Islands or small continents around the map and then also placing additional units for the computer.

I do thank you in advance if someone knows.

I will give props to CFC, much more thorough and dedicated to creation and modding with the games it covers.
