Civ III ptw crashes during heavy combat

Save and get a better connection. Less people playing could solve the problem. Most of the time I recommend experimenting with this. However saving a game and getting to know the people you're playing with, will probably help the game to continue for a while longer then usual.
;)

Well you could take the turn timer off and take your time attacking, so you dont have to have a certain time to complete the assault.

The game I was talking about is an epic game. We are now 1800 AD and only 2 players remain... We both have over 250 ground comabat units and each time we engage in combat we get an out of sync error when we move (many) troops around in the same squares. The connection speed can not be the problem bacause we are located close to each other (both physically and on the net).

Can we turn the timer off in our current game?

That explains things. Well I don't know, but 250 units is an incredible amount. Why don't you kill a few of your units, that should do it. No seriously, I've never had that problem!
Never had 250 units except in my only domination game with Japan. That game took forever...

I don't even think its the number of units that is the problem, I think problems start when we both try to move units into the same square at the same time, eg I want to add reinforcements while my enemy tries to attack... After a couple mobes we get out of sync errors...

It would be a shame if we could not finish this game, we have been playing for months (in game time = 23 hours), but deleteing troops is no option I need them all, and I am sure my opponent feel the same way.

Well whenever you move them onto the same square, war is automatically declared I believe (if moved at the same time).

Isn't the lag horrific?

We are already at war... eg when I have a stack of units say 20 something with which I am attacking his city, and he's simultaniously trying to move troops into that same city, sooner or later we'll go out of sync, and it's not the connection cause there is rarely any lag.
It seems to me that this a very common combat situation so I can't imagine we are the only ones having this problem.

You probably are one of few with the probelm cause not that many people play with that many units.
