Civ player but newbie modder

I've played Civ 3 on and off since it came out but have always wanted found strategic resources a complete pain. Can I use a randomly created map in the editor [I have C3C] to add more of these resources or do I have to start from the beginning and create the whole world? It's not that I haven't got a God complex it's just that I've other things to do and time is precious. I really want to get into Civ again so any help would be appreciated.

If I understood you correctly, you want to have more strategic resources in your maps? Right?

- Backup Conquests.biq from Civ3\Conquests\ IMPORTANT
- Remove write protection from the original Conquests.biq (right click with mouse -> properties)
- Open it. Check "Custom Rules" from "Scenario"
- Choose "Edit Rules" from "Rules"
- Find resources tab and find a strategic resource you want to make more common. Each strategic resource has an appearance ratio. Increase that ratio in order to make it more common.
- Save.

If you want to go back some day, just replace the conquests.biq with the backup.
