Civ VI (No expansions) Mod help

I can run the base game just fine, however, I have downloaded some mods from the steam workshop and I get a This mod is not compatible with this game version message. Is there any way to fix this?

I have a MacBook Pro and the game runs fine normally.

Simple fix: activate the mod anyway and see if it's working.

You can even tell the game to not warn you again for a mod.

Not all mods requires an update.

I have done that and I get a message saying to check the Lua records or something. I'm not a programmer so I don't know what to check for.

For that message, yes, you need to wait for a mod update.
