Civ1 Must Hate My System...

KoRnXe@n , you are a LEGEND mate!

I tried that thing with the config.sys and now I can play the DOS version once again! Yeeeeeeeeees!

Ive been *****in for well over a year about having to use the windoze version instead of the real thing. Finally I can return "home" to my animated rivers and meaty vga graphics and enjoy the game the way God (aka Sid Meir) intended it.

Sid Meier is not god. At least, is hasn't been proved.
I'm not sure he is. He never said he was.

Maybe he's someone else, as he destroyed so many human lives.
Who knows? Maybe our civilization, if it is one, will crumble because people play civ instead of working the fields.

I decided to reinstall Civ1 and give it another go, without the config thing. It still runs slow, but I noticed something strange. Once I get attacked by a rival Civ (excluding Barbarians), the speed returns to normal! I have no idea why. It's awesome, but strange. And this happens each time I start a new game too (or load one). I can't see why it just can't run at the normal speed right from the beginning though.

Is there anything I have to do to get my mouse working in DOS mode? Because I somehow doubt that I can speed up the game in Windows.

When in doubt, eat.

Make sure ou have your mouse driver loaded in config.dos, which will be swapped in as config.sys when you switch to dos mode. (It switches back out when reloading WinDoze.)
Put at the end of the file, device=mouse.sys
Make sure you have mouse.sys in your root directory or path, or use the path to where your mouse driver is. Eg; device = c:/utilities/mouse.sys

Hope that helps. Ahhhh! The joys of Dos.
