Civ2 GOTM #12 Results

The awards went to Smash (Gold), Duke of Marlbrough (Silver), chofritz (Bronze), and NOL (fastest finish).

Smash, you exceeded starlifter in the Hall of Fame and are the leader in the Global Ranking. Plus you're still the only one who played all GOTM's: 11. After that there are some who played 8 games, but none have played 9 or 10.

You're simply the GOTM-man.

That is the hardest by far that I "worked" on a gotm.Hooray?.....

1550 bc by NOL...holy @#$% that is fast.

I'll never get a green star at that rate.Look at all the early finshes.Seems players are STILL getting better

Yeah! How happy do you think I was when I finished that early......I thought that just had to be the green star......but there are at least 2 that finished earlier.............Ah well, I think I'll try it the Smash-way, play a kinda *record-game*.

I probably shouldn´t have wasted my time to build 3! wonders and several city improvements. :crazyeyes
But 1550BC is really awesome fast, I just have to look at that save, maybe he even included some more. If not maybe NOL can post once again and tell us how he got MapMaking and an appropriate invasion force so early! PLEASE!

I guess I'm still a bit confused about the rule on airbases. Last I remember, they were going to be allowed only for tactical purposes, correct? If so, there should be very few, if any, in these games since the AI is usually subdued very early in the game and thus air units should be in range from any number of cities.

I see them still being used for the terrain bonus they provide.

I had some ....but ..by the time it was clear in my mind(1)to build or not,I had allready built some.I could have just changed them(2) but that seems shady so I tryed to build as many fighters as bases.I think I missed a few.

(1)-not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

(2)which brings up a possible cheat,albeit a seemingly poor one.....Build airbases to swell pop faster and farm it later near the end?

I also noticed you made some airbases, Smash. But I didn't feel like it gave you a huge advantage. Especially since you built fighters for them, which is also a kind of a waste of production. Mwoh, booyah!

No, I'm just wondering how 'definite' the result of the last poll was. It seemed like it was decided within a very narrow criteria, but they are being allowed outside that criteria. I don't know if Smash was the only one to use them because I just ran through the end games without looking at whose was whose, so I'm not sure whose games I saw them in.

So, as long as I put planes on the airbases they can be used for other than tactical uses, OK.

And, as I have told Smash, his airbases obviously did not boost his score that much, so it's not a big issue with his game, but others might use them a bit more the next game and then more the next......

BTW, Smash has told me that he won't use any airbases in GOTM 13.

Mid table again.. Still at least I'm consistent.

NOL, Amazing finish .. Now was this down to luck or skill .

The only way I'm going to get any award is to go OCC but I've only ever managed it in King.. Will I get a 'yellow' even if I don't manage to finish the game?? GOTM 14 here I come

You won't get an award for a OCC. You're only in yellow in the ranking to show that you actually played one so that others can see why you performed to bad.

Well, I see I still have much to learn in this game. don't really have time, unfortunately, to view the save games, as I'm sure I could learn much from them. Still, I'm winning Deity level games now, so my playing must have improved somewhat. Won't be able to finish #13 (see my "no electricity" thread in OT), but hoping for #14--please make it a short game so I can play (insert on my knees begging smiley here)

I am really sorry , ...NOT
I had a lot off luck with the huts (after a few try's I must admid)
But with an aliance with the barbs I could not do any worse
They killed the defence off allmost every city but did not land at any of my .
I also got monarchie as second sience and that boosted my growth enormus I also made contact with almost every country before I started killing them
That gave me a lot of science and money
Mapmaking was a HUT
And when I found the english (after a sneek peek)
I saw the barbs did all the hard work and did a bit off trireme bashing with them .
I did not know I had sutch a great finish or else i would have played on for the space ship finish,but i did not have the time anyway

Please tell me if I cheat when I restart a few times from scratch
and have a look at the revealed map now and then.
If so please matrix disqualify me

And also thanks for the honesty, but I trust that's also because you did not intend to be such a spoiler. I hope you play the next GOTM in one try...

First line of the rules:
Cheating and replaying of the game are not allowed. Also reloading an older game when things don't go the way you wanted is also considered cheating.

I don´t want to sound over-critical, but now that NOL admitted "a little" cheating I wonder if he did that in his other high score games, too.

I really do NOT want to accuse anybody, but he did place 1st and 2nd in the last GOTMs and if he did so by cheating then this is a major spoiler and disappointment for the others who tried hard to achieve a high score without cheating.

I admire the honesty and I believe that he probably didn´t fully understand the rules, but they are just that: RULES.

So maybe NOL could once again make one of his few posts to clarify this up!
If he didn´t cheat, I´m really sorry to have started this discussion!
