With version 1.07f, Civ 3 is constantly crashing, starts running slow, and sometimes even causes my computer to restart itself. Every time I exit the game, I have to restart the computer before I can run it again. I tried upgrading to 1.16f, and then it couldn't detect the CD, and wouldn't run. Any suggestions on how to fix that, or am I stuck running a game that could be good if it wasn't full of bugs, making my computer crash, and needing me to restart every time I exit the game?

THAT'S JUST MY PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!

Every time I exit the game I MUST RESTART. I happens with and without 1.21.

My specs: Windows 98
PII 400 Mhz
128 Mb RAM

PLEASE HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP:( :( :( :(

first get the no-cd version of civ3.exe. this helps a lot. also you have to close all unnecessary programs before closing civ3, on my computer is sometimes uses 40 % of my GI resources, this can make your computer freeze and crash. A final and not so elegant hint is to close civ3 using the task manager.
I always reinstall the game when I upload a new patch, it works much better then, just don't forget to save your mods first.

Dear x11. First let me say Thank you very much for your interest.
I'll try your what you sau but...please excuse my ignorance. How may I use the no-CD version of civ3.exe? What do you exactly mean?

I always close any other program BEFORE playing, so that doesn't work for me.

And finally, as a clear demonstration of my unusefullness...how may I close it using the task manager?

Thank you very much again.

that's the webpage most civers refer to get the no-cd patch. it works fine. Before as I used the CD in my CD rom, the game was crashing most of the time.
To close a program with the task manager, press Ctrl Alt Delete at the same time. The task manager will come up and you can close the program. But as said it's a very unconvential way to close a program and you should only use it as a last resort and not on regular basis.
For me this solved most problems also when I still have the problem, everyone talks about, that the game dies at one special turn in every game??
