Civ3 Gold - do I need 1.29f patch?

I know Civ3 Gold has PTW already bundled, installed and it says that it is version 1.27f.

Do I need to install the 'vanilla' civ3 1.29f patch?

(I am in the US, if that matters)

At www.atarisupport.com (browse your way to Civ) you can find the following statement:

"There are no downloads or patches for Civilization III: Gold at this time."

hmm... I guess I could have thought to check there.

The info here has been so great It didn't even occur to me to check anywhere else.

For the purposes of Succession Games and such, does anyone know if CivIII Gold is compatible w/ the latest PTW versions?
