If I had bothered with installing it again,I would've gotten an error about DirectX9 something-or-another which I also have no clue about.

I get this when trying to install. I don't know what it is,or how to fix it. It only happens when I try to install certain games.

I've spent $50 on Civ games in the past two weeks and haven't been able to play one minute of eiether one,and I'm pretty close to just giving up and throwing stuff away.

Got this when trying to mess with DirectX

I don't know what it is. It also said DirectX's installation had some kind of internal error.

I am running Windows XP (i am on the administrator's account,too)

DirectX9c_EULA.exe is the file I downloaded,it appears. I think I tried another file earlier and had the same results.

I downloaded the file,what do I do with it after extracting it? I see a ton of .rar files.

I extracted the files into a seperate folder this time.

Tried to install it,got the software error crap again.

Then it gave me a box about some internal error.

[10/21/07 10:28:02] module: dsetup32(Jul 20 2007), file: setup.cpp, line: 5558, function: CSetup::DoCopy

Failed API: SetupInstallFromInfSection()
Error: (0xfffffb40)

Unable to proceed dxxp.inf:[WINXP_INSTALL]. The file may be damaged.

:hmm: this is weird I checked the file I linked to and it installs fine on my xp machine...
Somehow the installer looks for a file that is missing, unfortunately the microsoft knowledge database does not give much more information and definitely no solution regarding this error with directx...
I am at a loss there. While this may not yield much in terms of a solution I would recommend contacting Take 2's Customer Support since with the Games for Windows logo on the game they have to make sure it is compatible with Win XP - this is about the error in your first post (Don't expect too much from them - I have come to doubt that they actually read what you write and send out automatic replies to everything - but sometimes there are people who actually do their job even at Take 2's Tech Support :gripe: :)).
Regarding the DirectX install I do not know how to proceed - I doubt the support forum at microsoft.com will yield anything substantial and since this is more of a windows thing than a Civilization4 problem I am not too sure Take2 will be able to help in any case.

Well,in that case,anyone need a copy of Civ4 Gold? I'm not going to bother with the headache anymore.
