    Great! :)

    Thx for this pomthom.

I'm btw. hoping for feedback on the 2nd episode, I'm currently having a hard time finding motivation to record the next episode without people having reacted yet.

I'll probably solve those issues alone, but of course, true and kind help is always good, and also probably improves your experience of the upcomming episodes. Questions about topics I should cover would be really really great.

I've only listened to the first few minutes, but I wasn't sure what the goal was. By looking at the HoF, I assume this game is the Large/normal speed/Conquest game. I very difficult game! I like that you're not trying to "show people how to beat Deity" with some easy setup. This video should show them that winning this game means you can win any victory condition you want at just about any size/speed.

Maybe your game was open-ended and you had not picked a VC yet? But assuming this was planned for conquest from the start, it'd be good to hear more about how your decisions are made towards that specific goal.

I also didn't hear about any game configuration: barbs? Aggressive AI? # opponents? random opponents? world wrap? etc.

I heard you dis' the Boreal map :) I'm not sure I would call it a 'hard' map. All those forests can make things easier. Especially if you're planning to chop out a huge army and kill everyone.

That's what I thought too. Plus the AIs are fckin tree huggers and couldn't chop a forest to save their grandmothers... so they end up working a lot if unimproved land :badcomp: (well more than usual I mean :mischief:)

    1. The configuration of the map can be seen in the trailer of the movie, so in its first 2 minutes. There it's shown that I chose to play without Barbs, and I later also comment on that when talking about the GW.
AGG-AI will be featured as a larger chapter, because I played a game using that option additionally just before, but gave it up, because I noticed that it simply wasn't compareable, AI simply built too many units and I didn't see any real advantages making up for that, so I'll give a comparison of both games and show the difference between those 2 settings :)
I'll also definately talk about why I chose Conquest, but in very short. Just in very short and for now, I chose Conquest because I simply have very decent warmonger skills as you'll see, and one of the main reasons was also that I wanted to get that slot from Tachywaxon :) . I just don't like to be ignored by somebody, so I then sometimes "poke" a little, as I think that that might help...

Unortunately it didn't, but maybe time will change things, basically I miss her, because she was the earliest mentor I ever had in CIV, and I'd like her to be happy about herself and maybe, just very maybe, also be a little proud about her "student" , who's doing really well very often today.

About the Boreal map: That map is easier in terms of production, but Economy on Boreal is a Catastrophy. It's difficult for me to say this, but I just remembered yesterday, that I had seriously really great problems of staying competetive in research with the Deity-AI's which are on that map!

You'll see how this turns out, and how I (again) will use every tool that's a my disposal in order to first only stay in tech, then gain the decisive tech-lead and then...

All that I can say for now, is, that I really had to work my way there, and me not having a tech-lead all the time and me needing to really use everything I learned, is usually an uncommon situation, because normally, Economy in CIV is one of my specialties. I'm not as good as you Wastin, but I think that I've mastered CIV-economy to a very decent degree.

Maybe you'll show me better and enlighten me again by your experience :) .

AI chopping too little is true, but AI chops quite well when its in war.

It's true, that Boreal offers some advantages production wise, but for me, Boreal is still one of the ugliest possible map-scrips available. Almost no variety in resources, almost only bad-tiles that are not worth cottaging, and compared to a Pangaea for example, the map is a lot larger, so I think it's really hard to conquer it, and I personally believe, that it's not even possible to be competetive on the map without getting the Mids, as Specialist really are the way to go on Boreal imo.

I just watched part 2. Very well done.

Personally, I didn't have any issue with the music... but since others have complained about it, I don't think you're achieving your stated goal because music is more of a distraction for them. I suggest that if you really want the music, drop it another 3 dB and see if the more hearing-challenged in our group can cope with that.

I really like how you keep the game log open on the far right side of the screen where it's pretty much out of the way. When I play, I keep it closed because I've never found a good place for it. This leads me to miss 99% of the in-game messages that go into the log file and I don't learn about important details until it's too late. I'm going to incorporate this seemingly small and most likely unintended detail into my playing. I'm sure that it will help me become more aware of what is going on in the game outside of my own empire.

In general, I liked this episode better than the first. I think you did a great job of explaining both the lower-level details and the high-level strategy.

One small bit of advice: If it's more than 30 micro seconds between watching videos, I forget a lot of the details about what happened in the previous episode and where the game was going. With the videos coming out days apart, I'll forget a whole lot more. Maybe at the start of each video, you can give a short one-minute summary of what happened in the last few minutes of the previous video to get your viewers back into the game quickly.

Regarding the double worker steal from Asoka, I would have been VERY tempted to do it. As it turns out, it looks like you made the right call. It appears that at least one of those workers is doing some road work for you and you don't even have to pay his wages. In addition, you are getting religion spread to a lot of your cities for free which will really help in the long run.

I'm looking forward to part 3. The last few seconds of the video spoiled which type of great person you got, so at least you didn't leave us with a cliff hanger at the end.

I just finished viewing your great Replay #9 Videos, Seraiel! In the second video, you mentioned that Asoka will trade technologies when just 10% of the civilizations know it; I always thought it was 20%; the spreadsheet I normally use concurs. Pericles and Peter are the only leaders at 10%.

EDIT: I really appreciated the no music versions; I tried both videos with and without music; the music was definitely too loud in video #1 for me to clearly discern what you where saying; video #2 wasn't nearly as bad and music chosen wasn't as distracting as I had expected (I actually liked the music), but I still strongly preferred the no music version for video #2 as well.

Looking forward to seeing your next Replay #9 Videos!

It truely are 20%, the 10% are an error of mine, thx for finding that. Leaders of Civilization are a topic I wanted to feature anyhow, I'll correct my mistake then.

The videos somehow don't really get clicks...

First one is half-ok with 250 atm., but the 2nd video only got about 30 clicks in 2 days...

    :hmm:

Also nobody posting in this thread.

    :hmm: :hmm:  :D

As I understand how YouTube works, it's really hard to get exposure to random people without having a channel with tons of subscribers and views. It's quite common to struggle in the beginning. Most likely, most people who have watched, has come directly from this site.

This thread is a bit out in the sticks, so to speak. Personally I check the General and S&T Forums regularly, but have never ventured into these parts before. The same is probably true for most others on the site.

Look forward to the next video though :)

I viewed both videos in both music and no music versions from the links in this thread. I have no idea what constitutes a click on u-tube; I rarely use the site. However, now that I see quality Civ IV games being presented on u-tube, I'm planning to use it more often.

I'm btw. now starting on the production of part 3, which I plan to let have overlength and cover 1.5 to 2h of time where you can see me play live!

I hope you're looking forward to it, and that you can wait the 3-4d which I'll need for the production.

Regarding clicks on Youtube: It'd be nice, if you would help in producing a little more publicity for the video. I don't mind users from other sites, but the users from this site still don't seem to be aware, that they're missing one of the hardest games ever, that they have a great opportunity to learn beating Deity really easily, and that the video btw. is produced on very high quality standard.

Generally it's the feedback that keeps me going, making a video to make others beat Deity while 80% of the feedback (and clicks) comes from Deity players imo makes no sense, besides that we HoF'ers again can have the usual party that goes along with the Replays ^^ .

Maybe create a new thread in Strategy and Tips that simply points to this thread in the HoF? That forum has about 10 the active users that the HoF has.

Yes, i am looking forward to video #3. I can wait for you to do a great editing job. 3-4 days is well worth the wait. Waiting longer is fine too; don't want to rush you.

That is great (getting video #3 done in 1-2 days when you thought it would take 3-4 days), but please don't rush things.

In any case, your work on this project is greatly appreciated!
