Civ4 won't run

Ok, So after cleaning up my computer, including Civ4, I decided I would reinstall it. This goes smoothly. I downloaded the latest path and installed. When I try to run the game, nothing happens. I opened up task manager and saw Civ4 running in the processes tab but it wasn't even taking up 01% cpu. I've never had a problem with Civ, ever, until now. Does anyone what might be wrong? This is the straight vanilla version.

"cleaning up" means reinstalling everything including the operating system? or did you just remove some programs and reinstalled them?

I just removed some stuff I didn't use. This was 5 months ago, or so, when I uninstalled Civ.

does the game know it is installed (i.e. does autoplay give you the play option when you put in the disc)? I fear you'll need to do a clean reinstall and I will post a howto, but I'll need to run now so it will be tomorrow until I get around to this.

No need ori, but thank you for trying to help! I managed to trick the game into running by pretending to restart my computer and now it works fine. I don't know what was wrong, but it's fixed. Thanks again!
