Hello,
okay this is a tough one:
I purchased the BNW Addon which is launching till the loading screen and suddenly comes back to desktop. I played God & Kings before and had no issues. Here is what I already did and information that matters:
- Full Windows Update
- Uninstall graphics driver and installed the newest
- Updated all VCredist
- Performed DirectX installation
- Updated all DotNet Frameworks
- Uninstalled Civ5 + Steam
- Deleted all remaining data (cache, config, Steam settings, EVERYTHING)
- Downloaded and installed Steam and the entire Game again
--> at this point the game should really start up, but unfortunately it doesn't. So additionally:
- Flushed Steam Config
- Uninstalled AVG Antivirus
- Used DirectX Webinstaller and Civ5 DirectX Installer (ofc I tried to start it after each step and sometimes I switched some steps to make sure its not it)
- Granted full permission for the Valve folder in the registry
- uninstalled all dotnet, all VCRedist; reinstalled just which are needed from the Civ folder
- Gamecorethreading set to 0
- it's a dual core so maximum threads set to 2 (was 8)
- validated game intergrity
- there are no different installation folders
- there is no minidump data
- there is no error reported from Windows in the event log
- Used another Windows account to start the game
- tried to start using -w 1024 -h 768 -refresh 60 as parameters
- my account name just has simple english characters in it
--> I know this is XP SP3 (therefore DX9) and the graphic is ATI HD 2600XT which is minimum for the game but it worked before pretty well and it's just the Addon that causes this issue. I checked this forum too but I couldn't find a suitable solutions. Although there are some similar errors beeing reported in the 2k forums and the Steam Workshop, but the mentioned solutions do not refer to this case.
In the following you find the dxdiag. Seriously, I will be astonished in case someone nails down the problem here.

Have you tried Civ5 without BNW enabled? If Civ5 vanilla works fine, and then you enable BNW, and it does not, there are only about two options. BNW will not work with your system, or there is a file associated with BNW that is corrupted. Perhaps manually deleting the folder containing BNW may help, but you have gone through a lot of troubleshooting already. If Civ5 vanilla works, my hunch is BNW pushed your system past the edge of playability. Hopefully I am wrong.

You can also try the BNW demo and if that works, then there just may be a corrupt file.

thx timtofly,
I am still not aware that I can disable BNW before the game starts, I will figure this out since you say it is possible. Moreover I will test it with the Demo - but it can't really be a corrupt "game file". My prime suspect still is Directx9 or any to it related Windows file that got updated and shouldn't (in order to be compatible with the game). But I haven't found a good way to restore Windows Standard and reinstall "Civ5 DirectX".
Oh one important thing I forgot to mention:
When I start the computer the first time (or when I perform a complete system restart) the first start of the game comes up with the error "couldn't start game...is already running". But if you start over the game, it just comes back to desktop and no error message.
