Considering that we're still 1 month away from release, it's a good result I think.

It also appear in 7th back in May when it opened for preorders.

I guess we really are fanatics.

I finally got around to ordering mine(on Steam :mischief:). Hard to believe it's only 26 days away :woohoo:

Here's hoping that the launch is smooth, the game is good, and my hardware can handle it.

That's more emoticons than I use in a typical week of posting. I must be losing it.

And people thought Steam would be bad for Sales, ha ha ha ha ha.

This doesn't give you any information on the overall sales of Civilization V, only the sales on Steam. And Steam's "Top Sellers" list only includes games sold on Steam.

I don't agree with those people, but your argument is flawed.

Its not flawed, the top games in that list, obviously have a lot of sales, steam is quite popular, so for Civ 5 to be on the top 10 then it to must have had a lot of sales.

Then clearly the original argument (of the naysayers) had no merit to begin with.

Steam is popular. Good games on Steam are popular.

Why would Civ be any different? Steam haters seem to think they have more power than they actually have (90% of them will end up buying the game despite the outrage).

Anyone who thinks that a gaming platform with 2 million concurrent users online all the time is bad for business is out of his mind.

Anyway on release day we will have a very good figure of Civ5 sales because everyone, regardless of how and where they bought the game, will have to login on Steam to play. The number of concurrent Civ5 players on September 24th at Euro and US prime time will be a good start.

Not necessarily, you only have to log in to verify the game, not to play.

Anyways, Civ5 is one of the very, very few games I pre-ordered in my life. I bought Civ4 on release and it had some pretty serious flaws, like the memory leak issue. Heres to hoping Civ5 is gonna be better... I just couldn't resist the temptation

At least I have the consolation that Civ4 turned out well.

How do pre-orders on steam work?

Is there a certain time on 9/21 I have to launch steam to initiate the download?

Well steam servers be clogged with other people downloading such that it will be a week or more before the full game downloads?

This will depend, if Civ 5 can be preloaded you can start playing 1 minute after midnight on the 21st. If Civ 5 can't be preloaded you will have to manually start the installation (download & install) and then wait.

Historically, Valve has been very good about ensuring there is enough available bandwidth for new releases to be distributed smoothly. I've purchased a few games and downloaded them at prime time (and a couple at 1 minute after midnight) on release day without any real problems.

Some games steam will even allow you to preload, where you can install it a day or two earlier (but not actually play it). Not sure if this will be one of them, but it guarantees you can play it right away.

Thanks, I took a risk and pre-ordered Civ 5 Deluxe on Steam. If Steam server congestions delays my download significantly then that will cause me to reconsider whether I use steam in the future...
