Civ5 Pre-Order Bonuses

Hmm... I wonder if those map packs will have versions for different map sizes? The ones pictured look to be a much smaller scale than I would enjoy. Central America and Italy are both only a couple of tiles wide!

I ordered D2D anyway, but I'm certain they'll be selling these map packs as DLC too...

Says it right on the page that "Cradle of Civilization Map packs will be available for later purchase as DLC".

Steam has preloading as of yesterday, which isn't mentioned, and IMO, is a major perk.

Many folks think other outlets won't be doing preloading due to how the game is bound to Steam.

We'll see.

As someone who preordered from D2D, I'm a little irritated. Preloading is a huge perk to me.

Yeah, same here, I ordered from D2D and am seriously thinking of returning the order, to place one on steam and pre-download instead.

Forgive my noobishness, but what is D2D giving you when it says, "Free Double Civilization and Scenario Pack"? I can understand DLC and a scenario pack, but what is the Double Civilization part referring to?

What I'm wondering about is how they could put effective DRM on map packs. If we're going to be able to make and share maps anyway, would they even have a mechanism to prevent these certain maps from being loaded on other accounts? Heck, even if they had that, I wouldn't be surprised to see people start posting replica maps they made in the map creator to match the pre-order map packs.

FREE Premium DLC Get the first Double Civilization and Scenario Pack for FREE when available "*Availability currently set to late 2010. Date subject to change."

I assume it's two free Civ's + Scenario's as soon as they are released as down loadable content.

That's a good guess and makes sense. I guess I can't figure why they don't just say two Civs instead of "double civilization."

Is there any reason these maps cant be slightly altered with the world builder and then redistributed for free on the mod marketplace ?

What happened to Babylon? I thought that was one of the pre-order bonus's?

I'm guessing that these maps are programatically created so you change the options when creating the map.

Seems like I ordered from D2D and got the best bonus, though no preloading is a bummer. Besides that, I paid the least and got the most, I'm still happy.

Babylon comes with the digital deluxe version; Which only Steam or D2D offer, and is independant of pre-ordering.

Amazon.de, the german version, will give you the mediterranean map pack.

So, may I consider myself a honor-citizen of canada? Hand me my flag, please!

This DLC approach worries me. It seems like they are just going to nickle and dime us to death.....and if you want to play any multiplayer or succession games, everybody'll have to have the same DLC features.

The DLC appears to be the way they are going to get the extra $$$. See the Total War series for new units.
They even make it a difficult choice from what retailer to buy from depending on what bonus map you really want for Civ 5 in pre-ordering.

Other then the initial release I am not sure how much a DLC will a factor in variety when you have a strong mod community. From my understanding Civ 5 will continue with it's modability. Other games allow skin changes but do not allow you to in to the hardcore mechanics to create and change gameplay.

If they offer DLC in the future for maps or units to purchase they better be damn special!

I always like to buy a boxset, open it, and install the game. Hence I don't use Steam, or D2D etc.

This time though with the extra Civs, I might buy the D2D version, however I'm still trying to justify the extra £5 cost, over the boxed edition.
Will actually worth those two exclusive Civs and lose the box/manual etc?

Any advice welcome.
