Hey fanatics,

We're running a contest over at the CivAnon Facebook page wherein people can submit a video of their "story" of their Civilization addiction. The winner gets $2,500 and a signed framed poster.

There are currently only a few entries meaning so far your chances of winning are pretty high!

The full rules are here, and you can see the entries that have been submitted so far:

I've seen this on Facebook before. It looks like great fun, and I look forward to seeing the winning and honorable mention videos.

I'll never understand ad campaigns that seek to generate humor by belittling the company's own product (by comparing it to a drug) or the product's customers (by comparing them to addicts).

It's all in the spirit of good fun, obviously there's no malicious intent.

You kill barbarians, enemy civs, and more in games like Civ, does that make it bad, that you're encouraged to be violenct and kill? C'mon now.

Just a game...

I bet that guy who is suing that company over video game addiction isnt laughing!!! This is going to be "Exhibit B" in his suit. :sarcasm:

CivAnon is merely Firaxis covering its behind. It's a fair warning about the addiction aspect of the game. ;)

Meh. It's a good-natured take at the "5am!? Crap, where did the night go!?" or "just one more turn" we *all* have experienced! ;)

It's not belittling itself, but rather about sharing a common experience in a humorous manner.

Cheers, LT.

...There are only three entries and the price is $ 2500? Now where is my video camera when I need it? Oh, that's right: 'waste of money', didn't buy one.

The fat guy's video is by far the best... And even that could be a lot better. Someone from this site should make a vid, it's easy money at this point!

Exactly. I thought it was funny - and was a *very* clever marketing scheme to appeal to existing fans.

Its not like its a TV ad aimed at people who don't know what Civ is.

Why on facebook? I hate facebook? Why do companeis want people to visit their freakin facebooks? Bah ...gl anyway!

How is that advertisement? I mean its just as much advertisement to put it on gamespot, ign, your own homepage. What ever. It will still spread through forums like this, through emails, even through facebook. If anything it limits the scope of the avert to those that use a restricted and infringing medium like Facebook.

It's extremely cheap advertisement that directly relates a product with your friends. Your friends are liking it and checking it out so it is far more likely to spark interest in checking out what it is then a simple banner which would cost a lot more to place.

ah yeah the "like" feature on Facebook. I forgot about that. People use it even more cheaply than the friend requests I guess.

[SARCASM]I like how this contest includes the US and UK but not Canada...[/SARCASM]

That's because Canada is not part of the "axis of good"...yous whine too much when the "axis of good" accidentally drop bombs on your troops.

Great comp! Exclude 99% of your market. That shows smarts, eh!

You *do* realize that contest laws vary wildly between countries, and that making a contest for more nations would be an ungodly mess and maybe even not possible? Nice sarcasm over what is a legal issue, not a "we don't want X country to have it" one.
That's why it's not available in several states as well.

Yes I *do* realise that, but you *do* realise that's what you pay legal departments for?

Seems other companies have no problems running worldwide comps, only 2K, eh?
