CivEdit and Modified Maps

So, I downloaded Civ3Edit last night. I'm trying to ease myself into it by playing around with already-made maps. Inside CivEdit I can open the two Earth maps that came on the CD, but when I try opening any of the maps I've downloaded from these forums, I get a blank map (only ocean with a fringe of polar icecaps).

I've tried downloading the same files again, and according to the Finder they are indistinguishable from the files that came with the game -- they are Civ3 datafiles. I can load them in CivIII itself. I can load the test map I generated in Civ3Edit. Why does the editor seem to not like the maps I get from CivFanatics?

Hi, welcome to the mad house ;)

Can you post a link to a map that's giving you this problem?

I've had this problem a few times. I dont think it's to do with maps from here specifically, I've had ones form here work and others not.
One example i can think of from the topof my head is the "perfectionist Map" cant remeber were I got it. But i cant edit it despite being able to play it.
ON another note a while back my Civedit begam crashing one opening it and I just deleted it.

I've tried it with Marla Singer's World Map, this Roman World map, and Mongloid Cow's Eurasia map.

I've got CivEdit in a separate folder with Civ3 v. 1.16f. Could it be a matter of needing the right version of Civ3?

I've had no problems with the maps I've made in Civ3, but if I have to keep doing square-by-square reconstructions of maps I've made in Civ2 -- when there are excellent maps already made here in these forums -- I'm going to scream.

It depends which version of Civ3Edit you are running. The latest one only runs with 1.21, and when I've run it I have the actual Civ3Edit file in the same folder as the Civilization III version 1.21 application file, not in a sub-folder.

[Edit] I've just tried downloading the 1.29 compatible Maria Singer map and it opens as an empty map in the current Civ3Edit - versio 1.32.1. So maybe Civ3Edit will only open maps that are 1.21 compatible? I'll do some checking ...

[Update] This post by Brad Oliver says it all. You can't open a 1.29 BIC with the 1.21 editor. And since there's no 1.29 editor you would have to find 1.21 versions of the maps you are interested in.
