Silver and Amorphus:
Both turns look pretty good!
Who's up Next?
I think Civ General
ummm i hopefully getting C3C soon so could you explain exactly what this is?
ahh nvm yall play together...
Definitely CivGeneral is up next.
It's been 6 days...how about we give him a few more to turn up, and then possibly skip?
It is probably very bad form to skip the host, though.
Do you want to skip Civ General now? It's been 7 days now.
:/off stealth mode:
While I'm the last person to give advise seeing as I'm often a day late or so with my report, I still feel the need to stick my nose in where it doesn't belong.
Civ General hasn't shown up in another SG he's in, I guess he's being bogged with his Demo game.
Yes, it's true, it is bad form to skip the host of a SG. However it is much, much worse to blow off a training SG that you are hosting without at least posting a reason or a timeframe you'll be gone.
:/on stealth mode:
This isn't a normal training game... a normal game the host wouldn't be taking any turns and they'd be providing timely tips on game play and strategy for before each turn set and then would review the good/not so good choices after each turn set. I even seen them where the host/trainer will have all of the members play the same set and then compare the results pointing out goods and bads. The object of a training game is to learn how to play and win at that level (as well as enjoy playing an SG).
Don't judge all training games by this one.
Here is a good example:

Hmm. Well, i guess we should probably skip CivGeneral so that
this actually keeps moving. I will post the order list just to refresh everyone:
CivGeneral (Skipped? MIA?)
SolarKnight (Up next, I guess )
theorykid (Sharpening his sword)
Amorphus (Just played)
Silver and Solarnight, good luck in that other SG! I am
Got it, will play it tomorrow
thanks for the luck theorykid.
Sorry for the delay guys, our ISP decided it was going to die last night so here are my turns:
Pre - turn: Check everything, change Tikal to Javelin Thrower.
Turn 1 1500 BC: Copin: Granary -> settler
Trade the aztecs Writing for Iron Working.
We have iron sitting on the hills next to the capital [dance].
worker turns and exploration.
Turn 2 1475 BC: Volcano near northern chokepoint erupts, i wouldnt trust settling within a one tile radius around it as it stands.
worker turns and exploration.
Turn 3 1450 BC: Discover Philosophy, get free tech[dance], I take Polytheism and set research to monarchy.
Capital riots, set lux to 10 %.
Turn 4 1425 BC: Order restred in the capital: Settler -> javelin thrower.
The Americans must be at war with someone, i just noticed a city get razed between this turn and last. Though i did notice the city was built directly on top of a cow.
Adjust slider to keep us in the black.
Turn 5 1400 BC: Not much apart form exploration, have set a spear and a javelin thrower on two of the spots on the dotmap
Turn 6 1375 BC: Palenque: temple -> settler.
Turn 7 1350 BC: Have a settler approaching the southern choke point.
Turn 8 1325 BC: Copan: Settler -> Javelin thrower.
yaxchilan founded on southern chokepoint. set to worker.
one of our exploring warriors kills a barb warrior.
Turn 9 1300 BC: Capital: Javelin Thrower -> Settler.
Turn 10 1275 BC: Settler moves onto spot on dotmap to NE of capital.
Aztecs are up Horseback riding, Americans are down philosophy and polytheism.
Just delurking here, and a point to note. Had you founded a city between that cattle and wheat (and fish), you could have had a potential settler factory. It was only 3 south from the capital.
EDIT: hmm, I see irragated grassland IN DESPOTISM!! And, I see very misaligned cities... Another move. Lux rate is at 10%, but could be at 0%, and science at 80% For a training day game, something's not getting across...
5 cities in 1275BC is kind of a low number, too...
Ok, here's something to help you out. This is a dot map of how I'd build if I were playing this game. The southern cities are 3 tiles away from the capital. The northern (NE) cities are 4 tiles (although, I could make them 3 tiles, but I wanted to have 2 good ports on that side). With some temporary irragation (change over to mines ASAP) to irragate the cattle, the spot by the cattle, fish and wheat would become a settler factory. The spot between Tikal and Copan would use that cattle and be a worker factory. (note: this is where I might think about moving that spot 1 west, and use the cattle immediately, but, since this is a warload game...). I'd also build enough workers to have atleast a worker per city, if not 2. I'd also build around the capital first. I'd build just north of the chokehold, and finish out the rest of my landmass. At a higher level, I might be lucky to get that spice area. Also notice how I avoided the volcano, and at the same time, placed the city so that it picked up that one tile that will be +1 food for an inland city.
Once I have a solid base (1 1/2 to 2 rings), I'd also think about building lots of workers to start moving into the jungle. I'd also place my FP maybe somewhere around that horse. There's a lot of mountains and hills to the SE of that jungle, which will require careful city placement. (you need 1 grassland tile to support 1 mountain tile, or 2 hill tiles when the grassland tile has irragation and rails). It's possible that you may have several "Port Towns", that won't be very productive, but who's sole function is to generate commerce (via the coast and sea). If you do this well enough, you can grab that land before the AI even gets to it, and have a FP and Palace ring already in place. (Remember, the FP isnt as powerful as vanilla Civ3 and PTW, so you have to build it slightly closer). Also, use courthouses and WLTKDs to help combat corruption so you can build a FP.
That's the substitute teacher's tip of the day.
Sorry of me to go MIA. I still have to work on commiting to a SG, anyway Ill get the save the next time it comes around.
Thanks for the tips Chieftess, your help is greatly appreciated.
Chieftess, thanks for the tips!
I think your points are very good, and since I was the one who made the dotmap, allow me to explain my reasoning slightly.
1) Your points about the settler factory and the city placement are completely correct. However, a only mild benefit would be felt until irrigation could be extended to that city, which we haven't even gotten to yet. The lack of fresh water here is very detrimental. That city you suggested would only be +1 food from the current placement.
2) Irrigation on grasslands is appearing precisely to extend the irrigation to match your point about 1).
3) When dotmapping, I opted to go for a city set slightly more dense than OCP. Unfortunately, there wasn't any discussion of the plan at the time.
Well, I suppose we are here to learn.
Sorry I was a little pokey with playing. It was a busy day today. But the valentine is sleeping , so time for a little civ fun.

And the save
Good luck to the next person!
Sorry could'nt get much computer time yesterday. Playing today.
In the year 1025 bc the poy smoking Jaugar Silver took power and said " Why do we have so many Javalin Thrower's ? They are brave warrior's yes but to defend our cities would a sperman not be better? After all they upgrade to Mech Infantary while the Javalin Thrower upgrade only to Tow Infantary which is inferior."
This left the advisor's scrathing their head not knowing what a Mech Infantary was or Tow Infantary.
Pre Turn- Do we really need all those Jav's right now? I change production in Lagarto to tempal and Yaxilca to barracks. I chane Palequane and Tikal to spear's as well.
