I dont have any incentinve to build more than that at all because maintenance will come and bite you.

Concidenally, I think market/bank/stock exchange buildings don't cost any maintenance, while monument costs 1 and colosseum costs 2 I think. or was it three.

And military units you probably can afford to have in field all the times is up to five units, the game is very harsh on you when you try to have six to ten to be able to protect yourself reasonably well, you can't really make any kind of offense unless you have like twenty units against a much larger and powerful empire.

I was forced to turtle for centuries until I acquired autocracy tech. Just to be able to start assaulting. Even then, the gold it lets you have, is probably good enough for ten units depending on how big your country are.

What's more, I learned that tile improvements costs maintenance, Now I'm very leery of building anything at all with a worker.

I have no clue on how much what kind of improvement costs how much maintenance.

Cannot find the manual on my pc. Could u tell me where it is hidden cuz I checked civ 5 game folder and couldn't find it.

Roads costs upkeep and I think improvements do too not sure tho.

The manual is available from the Civ 5 website and from the Steam page for the game.

Roads and railroads are the only tile improvements that cost maintenance, but modding has the capacity to add upkeeps for other improvements.

Think of buildings as resource-conversion tools: e.g., if you have 10 population, a library is a machine that converts 1 gold into 5 science every turn. In this sense, almost every building is useful in certain specific circumstances.
