Civilization 6 Fog of War, can you remove it?

Hi folks. I have been playing a lot of Civ 5 lately. But I would like to get into Civ 6 more.
But what really puts me off about Civ 6, is the way it treats the Fog of War when you are exploring with your units.
You know, the thing where you move with your unit. The fog disappears and you see all the land around you.
But as soon as you move away, the fog of war comes back, and you get that awful sepia tone all over the map.
I find that I hate this mechanic because I find that things like barbarian camps are not highlighted, so it's easy to forget that they are still there.

I want to ask, is there a mod that will do anything to help with the fog of war? I haven't been able to find one.
I found one called "colourised fog of war", but all this does is colourise the depictions of dragons, ships etc on the map.
I could do with a mod that highlights discovered barbarian camps under the fog of war.

This is why at the moment, I much prefer to play Civ 5, as I believe it is a much better game than Civ 6.

No, its only units that disappear in Civ 5. The map outside of your view range just goes dim. But the actual graphics of fields, cities, roads etc are still in view.
You can still easily see where the barbarian camps are in Civ 5. In Civ 6, it all makes it look like a Brown Sepia Map. Like an old parchment map. I find it easy to forget that there was a barbarian camp that I didn't clear still on the map in Civ 6.
In the screenshot you can easily see where barbarian camps are in Civ 5. It's totally different in Civ 6.

In my experience, one can still see a sepia-tone barb camp, with its little circle of wooden stakes. One cannot see the units anymore, either inside or outside the circle. Definitely harder to see, but still there. I'm using no mods, just Gathering Storm and the NFP / LP add ons.

I've started using a map tack to mark them. When I get the notificiation of a new barb camp, I click on the notice icon to find out where it is. Then I drop a barb map tack on it, before I hit "Next turn."

Can you post an example screenshot from Civ 6 as I don't recognise what you are describing.
This is what I am on about. Where the map goes all a sepia brown once you move out of the area. In the screenshot, top right corner you can see a barbarian camp. I find these easy to forget about and are not easily noticeable on the map. But, it doesn't matter, as I have now found the map tack option to mark where the camps are. But thanks for answering.

Thanks for that info. You are a life saver mate. I didn't even know Map Tacks exist in the game lol. Just shows how much attention I pay to the interface. Now I can easily mark the barbarian camps as you suggest. However, I still don't like the way they did the fog of war in Civ 6. Much prefer to have it all exposed, but with units hidden, like it was in Civ 5.

CQUI will also highlight barbarian camps for you when you select a unit; it may have the option to keep them highlighted as it has a lot of settings I haven't fiddled with.

Thanks, I will look into that too. Will probably be playing without mods for awhile to get achievements.

Mods don't break achievements in Civ6. :)

Map tacks are very useful in Civ6, for district planning. In the early game, as my scout is moving around, I use the "Settler" lens to verify fresh water and choose a city location. Put a map tack for the city center to remind me. A bit later, when I found a city, I have the ability to place a district to lock in its cost. I will play around with testing, but not yet placing, districts to check their adjacency. (I'm not yet skilled enough to recognize great adjacency from the map alone). When I see a good place, I will drop a tack for the second district (when it grows to size 4) and then place the first district.

I will also drop a tack when a meteor hits and when I find a tribal village (but it's surrounded by barbs), so that I can get to them.

I'm aware of mods that improve that experience, but haven't tried them yet.

I second this. CQUI is also very helpful with this as it will tell you what adjacency bonuses a tacked district will get (taking into account other tacks you place, too--so if you place a wonder tack next to a Theatre District tack, the adjacency bonus will take that into account).

Thanks for the tips. I have seen that an improved map tacks mod is the most subscribed to mod in the Steam Workshop. I might have to try it out.
