Civilization 7 Soundtrack/Music discussion

Very pleasant and atmospheric.

Not so sure how well the first minute works for me, thought at first I had another tab playing music at the same time haha. Gorgeous after that however.

Well, looky here:

Very charming. The simple, easy to memorise melody works well with both the softer traditional bits and the Western grand orchestration, which blend into each other well. I like the gentle beginning of the theme. The drums at 2:10 send chills down my spine. But my absolute favourite part is the soft part between 2:38-2:59 - plain beautiful, and perfectly matching the atmosphere of the background image.

Of modern themes, I think I like this one best so far, just ahead of Qing and Mexico.

My thoughts exactly. The first minute is a bit "well this is going to get annoying fast..." Then the orchestra kicks in and it's one of the better songs from there.

Is it just me, or is the image too zoomed-in in the actual video? it looks like only the thumbnail is properly scaled

Kongo was the first civ I played in 6. I think I would hate their theme if not for the nostalgia. Brazil is on my ban list for their music too... Though for me the worst offenders are Khmer and Indonesia. Their themes in 7 are fortunately nowhere near as irritating...
How dare you insult the Khmer and Indonesia themes in Civ6! You must hate real Southeast Asian instruments then, like Gamelan. I know someone else who finds Civ6's Khmer theme annoying though.
Some people would say Civ7's Khmer theme is irritating with the weird "jazz" sounds and singing. Plus Majapahit's Civ7 theme lacks gamelan and is Sundanese instead of Javanese. I wished Geoff Knorr composed Majapahit's theme instead of Roland Rizzo, he composed both of Indonesia's themes in Civ5 and Civ6.

I never really have an extreme reaction to the music, like some of you guys. I usually appreciate all of it. I guess my ears are "weird" then. And the longer I play a Civ game, the less I notice the soundtrack, so it doesn't irritate me as much.

There's something about the endless "plink" noises, in a weird way it reminds me of 8-bit console music. But it also tends to be on the higher pitched end of things and quite repetitive. There's something about all that put together which just makes me nope right on out.

That said, it's probably a good thing not everyone likes every civ theme. It shiws there's diversity in there... l've liked a bunch of themes in Civ which were contentious. Cree, Maori and Zulu in 6 were all tracks I'd happily stick on repeat.

I liked the Cree, Maori and Zulu themes in Civ6 too. I guess you don't like the sound of gamelan and other high pitched Southeast Asian instruments then.

Maybe, out of the SEA civs in 6, I liked Vietnam's theme, but that sounded like it used quite a different set of instruments to Indonesia or Khmer. It wouldn't surprise me if it's just a specific musical style I don't gel with.

Vietnam's music is much more Sinitic.
