Civilization 7 Soundtrack/Music discussion

That's not a Prussian song. That's a Lithuanian neo-pagan band performing a completely original orchestration of a 19th century Lithuanian poem the band writer translated into Old Prussian.

From their own description: Tekstas į senąją Prūsų kalbą išverstas iš Rytprūsiuose Liudviko Rėzos išleisto lietuvininkų liaudies dainų rinkinio 84-tosios dainos; pointing to https://archive.org/details/dainos00reza/page/226/mode/2up for the Lithuanian poem they used as a base.
Thanks. So it’s even stranger, then :crazyeye:

I mean neo-paganism and obsession with ancient rituals, folk origins, swastikas, etc. makes for a very clear reference to ""Prussia"" but we all know that's not what they were going for. :groucho:

That's likely the result of some bad research, to be honest.

Even if the song itself is genuinely Old Prussian, using an Old Prussian (Slavic) song for Prussia (whose ancestors conquered the Slavs) is very much not an adequate decision.

Yeah but w/e, it's about what I'd expect from the game at this point. Well meaning but with very glaring holes in some areas as far as research (or its application due to resources, gameplay considerations, and genuine errors) goes.

Just a note but Prussians were Baltic speakers, not Slavic ones.
Though IIRC the language family itself could be seen as Western Baltic languages (Prussian), Eastern Baltic languages (Lithuanian, Latvian) and Southern Baltic Languages (Sorb, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Ukrainian,...) with the Southern Baltic languages becoming so expansive they spawned a new subfamily akin to Romance (Italic), Sinitic (Trans-Himalayan/Sino-Tibetan), Mongolic (Para-Mongolic), Tai-Kadai (Austronesian) and other like them.

That's even weirder, so Prussia's theme is essentially based on a Lithuanian poem. I definitely think more research likely would've been better to prevent something like this as Prussia got done very dirty here! Russia's theme containing Hymn to Red October was also an extremely weird choice.

I won't be surprised if there ends up being mods that change Prussia's theme.

It's relaxing. But I prefer the Chola and Maurya themes. I can see this music playing in some fancy Indian restaurant.

The mystery of Trung Trac's first look video endures...unless someone who got the game notices it among the ambient music. I hope a capable person can take a look at the game's music files. I miss the days of finding MP3s in the Civ5 music files. If it's Dai Viet's theme, it doesn't really sound Vietnamese to me (I'm just comparing it to Civ6's Vietnam themes).

I’d point towards looking for her FL theme during playthroughs as Persia, Egypt, or Abbasid. It just gives off the vibes of that approximate region to my ears. If this gut feeling is correct, then there is also a chance that it was the theme of upcoming Phoenicia or Assyria, authenticity notwithstanding.

I think you mean Carthage instead of Phoenicia.

Is there war ambient music? I got my first war early in the modern age and noticed some very militaristic, foreboding sounding music shortly after, but I wasn't sure if that was generic modern ambient music or not.

I don't think so, but I think your opponent's theme starts playing during war. I noticed the Shawnee theme playing when Tecumseh declared war on me and the Mongol theme when Xerxes declared war (both Exploration).

Pretty sure it wasn't another civ's theme and it a number of turns already into the war - but might've just been appropriate-sounding generic music then.

Update: I got this tune playing in my Antiquity playthrough, but it was a much simpler and slower rendition. Not sure if it’s because I got the peaceful version of it, or the same tune gets a more robust version in subsequent ages. But it’s probably safe to attribute it to an ambient theme at this point.

I really like the Modern ambient music, but I feel like there is way too few tracks. Between the five music pieces on loop and the rather repetetive gun sounds I felt a little overstimulated.

I hope the DLC themes will also be good (A revolt is quite likely if Britain’s theme doesn’t include Rule Britannia at all however)

Soundtrack is out on Spotify! Including the ambient themes excitingly, with four per age. Two from each age are indeed war themes! Assuming that's all of the ambients, hopefully we'll get more soon bc that aint many.
Edit: The mystery of Trung Trac's video music has been solved? Nation Against Nation (Antiquity Age Ambience 1 War)

I really hope this is just a selection of a few Ambient tracks, because 4 per age is nothing. Civ VI has like 3-6 of them for each Civ.
Yep, this is a rare miss from the Civ music department. The ambient pieces are nice but they begin to grate when you're hearing them so frequently (one after every Civ-specific theme — in a game with 8 civs, you're hearing each ambient theme 4x as frequently as the more exciting stuff)
