Civilization 7 Soundtrack/Music discussion

Or mod in a jukebox mod
Is this possible? I'd love that.

There are a few reasons why I don't play music from other sources. The most important is that my computer barely manages to run Civ and any other program opened just slows down the whole thing. And second, I like the interactivity of the music when declaring war, when meeting a new civ or when building a wonder. Yesterday I listened to the tunes of the newest exploration wonders for the first time! (Because I had been playing without music up to that point)

I just let civ sound effects play through my TV and use my speakers for other music. I realize everyone doesn't have this setup but you could even use a Bluetooth speaker and play other stuff from your phone to keep the load on your PC to a minimum.

Civ 7 America Theme is an absolute banger. It kicks in around 2:45. And brings memories from good old Sid Meier Colonization'94.

Compare it with Civ 6 America Atomic theme to hear the difference.

A modern theme. You hear the ticking of the clock as it counts down to a global conflict. Slowly builds the tension.

One of my first questions I had when they revealed the Pirates civ was “how will they do the music?”

Now we have our answer :)

The music is very reminiscent of the Sea of Thieves soundtrack, for those who are familiar

I didn't enjoy this one at all. It has all the classic Rizzo problems: repetitive percussion, naïve melodies and, above all, the sensation that this music should feel happier than it actually is. This last point is especially egregious, because at first it appears to be celebratory music. Instead, it just meanders, without surprises, until the end. I could have used some dramatic, thrilling or dreadful tune. We didn't got that and that's not a bad thing per se. However, at least give us something that isn't this sterile.

I said "no surprises", but I appreciate the trombone "solo", because it's so rare for Rizzo to take risks. That said, that trombone tune was just bad to me.

Finally, I'm also so over his obsession about renaissance instruments, but at least they kinda make sense here (emphasis on kinda, since the Republic of Pirates existed in the 18th century).

In sum, this is one of my least favourite tracks of the entire soundtrack. Which is a shame, because some of the most recent tunes by Rizzo (like Silla's) had grown on me.

Oof, the comparison between the two tracks is not even fair at this point: while the pirates sound super static, stale and predictable, the Tongan track is bold, lively and deep.
I will say, though: one problem Knorr has had in Civ 7 is that many of the tracks have distinct sections that don't blend well together -or at all. It happened with Hawaii, it happened with Bulgaria (to an extent) and Tonga might be the worst offender, with three different parts that don't share a lot. Still, that singing is SO good.

I sure hope he took some inspiration from Naive Melody for this one, because it's one of Talking Heads' best. He's a solid game music composer and the Pirate theme is, to me, just straightforward classic game music. You can feel the midi soul. Frankly when they take him out of his usual antiquity music containment zone is when he does best.

It's incredible how he was able to suck all the life out of PIRATE music of all genres. Just compare these arrangements to those found in Black Flag, and it's night and day.
